FOX's Transfer Dropper seat post has been tried and true and can be argued to be one of the most reliable dropper posts. Our friend, Thomas, has been running it. See what they think!
Spring 2020, I bought the first mountain bike of my adult life. A $550 Trek Marlin 5. I thought it was so sweet. That bike was the admission ticket to the money pit that is mountain biking. Since buying that Trek in 2020, I rode that one season and decided I needed a full-sus. Thought my $2,500 full-sus was pretty sweet. Then the clicking and creaking started.
I was convinced the clicking/creaking was coming from my BB or steerer tube but I could not for the life of me find it. Eventually took the bike to the LBS and they told me the sounds were coming from my seat clamp. I didn't believe them at first but then realized that the noise went away if I just stood up out of the saddle while pedaling.
The LBS cleaned the dropped post and seat clamp, then reassembled. Clicking came back quickly. I tried tighter seat clamp, looser seat clamp, no grease, more grease, etc. Nothing worked.
I decided that I would just have to get used to it.......until one day I was trolling around worldwidecyclery.com and happened across the Fox Transfer Factory Seatpost. That beautiful Kashima coating caught my eye and made me realize what had been missing in my life up to then. I clicked "add to cart" but then hesitated. $360 was so much money. I took it out of the cart. But then, like taking off a bandaid, I put it in the cart and completed the purchase before my brain could catch up to my heart. The beautiful gold dropper was mine.
I received my seat post a few days later. I tore into the box like a toddler on Christmas morning. Install took a few minutes and the seat post looked amazing on my metallic purple bike.
The seat clamp was infinitely easier to assemble than the prior seat post I'd had.
The whole process took a few minutes and then I was out riding, proudly letting the Kashima coating tell the world that I had no self-control.
The smooth retraction and quick erection(?) of the seat post brought a smile to my face every time. I thought back to the time in my life before I possessed a Fox Factory item and scoffed at my ineptitude. Now I was one of the elite. One that could scoff at those that had no Fox Factory components. There was peace in my heart.....briefly.
My bicycle looked ridiculous with only one Fox Factory part. What sort of lunatic can have OEM Fox suspension on a bike juxtaposed with that beautiful gold seat post. I began to browse worldwidecyclery.com again, this time for a Factory fork and shock. Soon my wallet was empty again, but my heart fuller than ever.
The Fox Transfer Factory seat post is a beauty to behold and to operate. I bought one and you should too. I think the only drawback would be the maintenance cycle/costs. I'm sure other seat posts are similar, but the maintenance costs through Fox are so high priced you could just buy a brand new one every three years instead of maintaining the one you have and you'd be out the same money.
