If you know anything about mountain bikes, then you know Fox makes some of the best suspension around. The Fox DHX2 is one of our most popular coil shocks and has been used by some of the best riders on the planet. In this review, our customer decided to get one for his YT Tues. Read on to hear how it went!
I decided to get the Fox DHX2 coil shock 10.5 x 3.5" for my YT Tues, had my bike for a few weeks before noticing the way the stock Rockshox worked. My Tues came with a RockShox but I wasn’t happy with it. I found that it was hitting rock bottom easily even after changing the coil. I started looking around so I didn’t break the bank and Black Friday was around the corner and I knew Worldwide Cyclery would be having a sale.
So I sold the RockShox and ordered the Fox DHX2 2020. I always liked Fox suspension products because they are high quality and on top of that, the customer service is topnotch just in case you have an issue with your product. The Fox DHX2 is one of the best rear coil shocks on the market, easy to install and easy to set up.
The first thing I noticed about the DHX2 was its sound–or lack thereof. For a rear shock that moves this much oil and has such a large amount of adjustment, it’s shockingly silent–so much so, that it’s worth mentioning. If the sound of oil squishing around kinks your cable, then you’ll be pleased to know that the DHX2 is by far the quietest of this test, and likely the stealthiest coil we’ve ever ridden.
One mistake I made though is that I ordered the wrong coil, meaning that I ordered a coil that is 400lbs and I had to change it to a 500lbs coil. So make sure you call Fox for recommendations before ordering the coil.
One thing I’ll change in this shock is the knobs that come with it from the factory. I would put a short lever so it can be set up easily without the need of the tools that come with it ( you don’t want to carry more stuff around) I understand that you don’t set it up all the time but you do want to make changes here and there depending on where you are riding. That’s one thing I give to RockShox, that their knobs are longer and you don’t need the tools to make adjustments. I always wonder why Fox did this. Other than the knobs complaint I give it a 4.5 out of 5 and that’s because of the knobs.
With all that said, I am extremely happy with this product. I would buy another Fox product in the fire without hesitation. One more thing to note, make sure to buy the mounting hardware so you can install it on your bike. Coil must be ordered seperate as well.
