Mountain Bike Tires

Tires are the single biggest performance upgrade most riders can make to their bike. More than suspension, more than a drivetrain swap -- the right tires for your terrain and riding style will change how your bike feels and handles more than almost anything else. We've been obsessing over tire combos for years, and we stock the full range from every brand worth running.

How to Pick the Right Tires

The main variables are tread pattern, casing, and rubber compound. Tread pattern determines grip and rolling speed. Casing determines how much protection you get against flats and sidewall cuts. Compound determines how sticky the rubber is and how long it lasts. Most riders run a more aggressive front tire for grip and a faster-rolling rear tire for efficiency -- that combo covers a huge range of terrain really well.

Not sure where to start? We put together a bunch of guides that cut through the noise. The Maxxis tire guide is one of our most-read pieces and covers the full lineup clearly. We also did a direct head-to-head on the Maxxis Minion DHF vs DHR II -- the two most popular trail tires on the market -- and a full breakdown of our favorite MTB tire combos for different types of riding. For XC and light trail, this long-term XC tire test is worth reading. And if you're looking at Schwalbe, we broke down their full radial lineup here.

Shop by Brand

Maxxis is the most popular brand we carry by a wide margin, and for good reason -- the Minion DHF, DHR II, Assegai, and Rekon cover basically every type of trail riding and have been proven at the highest levels of racing. Schwalbe is the other brand we'd put in the same tier -- the Magic Mary and Hans Dampf are serious tires that a lot of top enduro racers run. Beyond those two, we also stock the full range from Continental, Michelin, WTB, Teravail, and Vittoria.

Shop by Model

If you already know what you want, jump straight to the most popular models: Maxxis Minion DHR II, Maxxis Rekon, and Maxxis Assegai. Still deciding? Reach out -- tire selection is something we talk through with customers every single day.
