Mountain bike tires have a lot of options from both big brands and small brands. Maxxis, WTB, Schwalbe, Continental, e*thirteen, Teravail, Michelin, Vittoria and Kenda all make high quality MTB tires. All of these brands have tires from Cross Country, Trail, Enduro to Downhill, and within those categories, there are also tires made for fast, dry conditions and wet, muddy conditions. Some of our favorite tires are the Maxxis Minion DHF, Maxxis Minion DHR II, Maxxis Aggressor, Maxxis Dissector, Maxxis Rekon, WTB Vigilante, WTB Trail Boss, WTB Judge, Schwalbe Magic Mary, Schwalbe Hans Dampf, Schwalbe Nobby Nic, and Michelin Wild Enduro. We have reviews on the best cross country tires, best front and rear enduro tires, and the best from Maxxis and Schwalbe to help make your choice a bit easier.

Along with tubeless tires, you will need some tubeless sealant. Some sealants are better for certain conditions, but our top brands are Orange Seal, Stan’s No Tubes, and e*thirteen. Tubeless tape from Stan’s No Tubes, Orange Seal or DT Swiss will also be needed for a mountain bike tubeless setup. Tubeless valve stems are needed and can be simple black or just about any anodized color. Industry 9, WTB, and Stan’s are some of our best sellers.

There are also tubeless accessories like CushCore tire inserts, Huck Norris Rim Protection and Vittoria Air Liners to help prevent flats and rim damage. Lastly, if tubeless tires fail, or you are riding a dirt jump bike or downhill bike and want to run tubes, you can always grab a tube. From your standard tubes like Q-Tubes, Surly, Continental and Tubolito, we have what you're looking for. If you have any tire, tubeless, valve stem or tube questions, contact our customer service agents for answers.

About our Tires

Tubeless tires eliminate the inner tube, allowing you to run lower pressures for better traction and a more comfortable ride without risking pinch flats. You'll also get better puncture protection since the sealant inside instantly seals small holes and cuts up to 1/4" (depending on the sealant). Most modern mountain bikes come with tubeless-ready rims and tires, so making the switch is pretty straightforward. You'll need tubeless valves, rim tape, and sealant—we've got complete kits and all the individual components you need. The benefits are huge: fewer flats, better grip, smoother ride, and you can run lower pressures without worrying about pinch flats. If you're still running tubes and your bike is tubeless-ready, it's absolutely worth making the switch. Not sure if your setup is compatible or need help choosing the right components? Sealant doesn't last forever—it dries out over time depending on your climate and how much you ride. In general, you should check and top off your sealant every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you're in a hot, dry climate like Arizona or SoCal. Most sealants (like Stan's, Orange Seal, and Muc-Off) last around 3-7 months before they start to dry out and lose effectiveness. If you start getting more flats or hear sloshing that turns into clumping sounds when you spin the wheel, it's time to refresh. We recommend pulling the valve core and injecting 2-4 oz of fresh sealant depending on your tire size (bigger tires like 2.5"+ need more). Pro tip: Orange Seal Endurance lasts twice as long as standard formulas if you want to extend the refresh intervals. If you're not sure how much sealant to use or which brand works best for your riding, hit us up—we're happy to help!

Yes, it definitely matters! Front and rear tires do different jobs, so running the right combo makes a huge difference in how your bike handles. Most riders run a more aggressive tire up front for steering and cornering grip, and a faster-rolling tire out back for acceleration and pedaling efficiency. The classic combo is a Minion DHF (or Assegai) on the front for maximum traction and cornering confidence, paired with a Minion DHR II on the rear for controlled braking and acceleration. If you're riding more XC or less aggressive terrain, you might opt for something like a Rekon or Aggressor front and rear. Tire choice also depends on your local conditions—loose and rocky? Go aggressive. Hardpack and fast? Go for something with less knob height and faster rolling. And don't forget about tire width and pressure—wider tires at lower pressures give you more grip and comfort. Still not sure what setup is right for your riding style and trails? We've tested pretty much everything and can point you in the right direction. Just give us a shout!
