Around this time of year, Yeti Cycles always manages to steal the show with the release of their next lineup of bikes and although not every year offers a change in geo for their existing bikes, Yeti manages to stay on track with the most up to date build kits and colorways that set them apart from any other bike out on the trail.
For 2020, Yeti not only updated their line of 29ers; the SB100, SB130, and SB150, that were introduced in 2018, but introduced to us 2 new 27.5 bikes, completing the updated line up and giving riders the aggressive bikes, they wanted. The SB140 and SB165 may be two totally different bikes, but the motivation behind them was the same and in fact, has been the same for all bikes within Yeti’s line up of mountain bikes. Hand built - Race Bred.
The newer bikes we see from Yeti may be longer, lower and slacker to fit with current trends but each and every Yeti is still built around the same Switch Infinity link we have come to love. The tried and true suspension platform has challenged many other timeless designs on the mark and set Yeti in a category of their own. Here is a complete look at Yeti Cycles current lineup of bikes for 2020:
The Yeti SB100 Does not receive a full facelift for 2020. It will receive only a minor makeover leaving a sleek paint job with minimal decals. The SB100 was not deemed an “XC” bike by Yeti, but more of a “whatever you want it to be” bike. Maned by superhumans like Geoff Kabush, the Yeti SB100 has proven to be a prime competitor in the world of aggressive short-travel bikes and while races such as the Downieville classic get more and more popular, we start to see many other companies following close behind the SB100.

Next in line is the Yeti SB130 which cannot be classified solely as a trail bike. 130mm of rear-wheel travel is often labeled as a mid-travel trail bike but as we have seen a huge change in geometry, even bikes with shorter travel are capable of so much more than they used to be. Hence the term “DH is DEAD”. The Yeti SB130 is not only our go-to everything bike but is the choice for many riders looking for a bike that both pedals like a bat out of hell and descends faster than an avalanche. With the option for riders to choose the Lunch Ride build kit, you can increase the rear travel to 136mm. Watch our review here.

New to the quiver, the Yeti SB140 is a completely new approach to Yeti’s 2020 27.5” line up. Although the travel may be close to their older EWS Winning SB6, the SB140 is intended to tackle the same obstacles with half the amount of effort. With 140mm of rear-wheel travel and 160mm up front, the SB140 in on the edge of being a full out endure shred sled. But with a steeper seat tube and a headtube angle to roll over anything you throw in front of it, it cradles the potential to do so much more than other “enduro” bikes on the market.
Wheel Size: 27.5”

The Yeti SB150 was introduced in 2018 as the new long-travel 29er that no one needs but everyone wants. It climbs better than most other bikes in its category and bikes in a shorter travel category, setting it apart as a bike with the sky as it’s potential. With 29” wheels gaining popularity and DH bikes becoming less and less desired, the introduction of the SB150 created an enormous boost in consumers wanting a manlier bike that can still pedal. It is because of bikes like this that DH sales have decreased but for good reasons. Whether you go to the bike park, local DH trails, or just want to pedal for a few hours, the SB150 can do it all, without hesitation or extra work for the rider.

And just when you thought 27.5” wheels were on the way out… Yeti introduced the SB165 mid-July of 2019 as their new long-travel enduro bike. Not only replacing the SB6 but adding 15 or millimeters of travel to the rear end and 20mm up front. The SB165 truly is the Master of the Gnariverse. This bike is intended to tackle the steepest, angriest lines imaginable. Even if your bowels can’t keep it together on those sketchy lines, the sb165 will. Long, slack, low, mean. Just the way a bike like this should be. Are you worthy of riding it?
