While the DHR II has long been the go-to Maxxis rear tire for aggressive riding, the DHX takes things in a more focused direction. Maxxis says the DHX offers comparable rolling speed and braking performance to the DHR II, but with more stability and a smoother transition from the center tread to the side knobs.
In normal rider terms, the DHX is for riders who like the speed and braking bite of a DHR II, but want a tire that feels more supported when leaned over hard or pushed into high-speed corners.
World Cup downhill tracks are not getting easier. They are steeper, faster, rougher, and more technical than ever, and Maxxis says the DHX was developed directly from athlete feedback to provide more control and confidence on these modern race tracks.
That athlete development is already showing up in results. Keen eyes will notice the DHX has already been raced to wins by Jackson Goldstone at the 2025 Champery World Champs and Mont-Sainte-Anne World Cup, along with Luca Shaw’s win at the 2026 Loudenvielle World Cup.

The updated construction uses a dual-ply 120 TPI casing, new casing material, a wider overlap extending toward the shoulder, and a high-hardness butyl insert. New DH casing tires will also be marked with a New DH Casing decal on the packaging and a DH casing tech badge on the tire sidewall.
The Minion DHX launches in 27.5 and 29-inch options, both in a 2.50-inch width, with New DH casing and tubeless-ready construction. Initial models use 3C MaxxGrip, with MaxxTerra options coming later.
