OneUp Components Dropper Post Overview (The Most Affordable and Adjustable Dropper) [Video]

Overview

OneUp Components is a small team of talented and passionate mountain bikers who choose to work less and ride more. Based in the amazing Squamish B.C. Canada, the guys at OneUp have been crushing it with new products since their beginning. The first time I remember seeing their products was with 1x10 conversions, making extender cogs and derailleur mods. Their products have always been impressive. From chain retention systems, to pedals, drivetrain products, their EDC kits (that are amazing and a great way for tool storage), and now dropper seatposts, we highly suggest checking out their line of products. We have recently been riding the OneUp Dropper Post and have been super impressed with its performance!

OneUp Components Dropper Post Overview

One of the major issues in the past few years with all dropper posts has been reliability. Everybody knows the nightmares of a dropper post not working: spending a lot of money to rebuild, ending rides with either a post that won't drop or more commonly a post that will not return to full extension, or finicky shift cables. Yes, it sucks and hopefully those days will be a thing of the past. With a fully serviceable post by the average at-home mechanic, a drop-in cartridge, and cable actuation, this has all the makings to be your next favorite post. Oh, did I mention it’s affordable? The post is $199, (remote sold separately for $49) making it one of the cheapest options available. Affordable and reliable? Check.

One of the most amazing features is the adjustability of this post. Both posts have the ability to be adjustable all the way down 50mm from their full extension and anywhere in between. With an easy-to-install shim, the adjustment takes about 3 minutes. If you need a 163mm post, or a 137mm post, you can install a shim cut to the right length and throw it in there. Simple, yet effective and a feature that was never an option before the OneUp Dropper Post. The shims are sold separately in a pack of three, or one shim is included in the OneUp Remote.

The remote by itself is a great remote, and when you pair it with the dropper it’s like peanut butter and jelly. The remote is made from carbon with an oversized sealed bearing for extra smooth action. It sports a slightly different position and shape from most other remotes which allow it to roll under the handlebar more than other 1x shifter style remotes. This helps the thumb not only find the remote faster but less thumb movement means a stronger grip on the handlebar. This keeps fast action and handling a priority. With a textured concave lever, getting traction with or without gloves is never an issue. OneUp offers three different clamp configurations: a stand-alone clamp option, a Sram Matchmaker option, and a Shimano I-spec II option. If you ever decide to change brakes, you can get the other clamp versions down the road using the same remote body.

OneUp Components Dropper Post OverviewIn addition to the post being affordable, reliable, adjustable, it's also the shortest/longest option on the market... Huh? The OneUp Dropper has the shortest overall length while having the longest travel. More drop = more FUN! Utilizing the shortest “stack” gives you the choice of running a longer dropper post even if your bike has a short seat tube. Even if it's slightly too tall, you can then shim it down for your exact saddle height!

Riding impressions:

Not much to say here except the post works every time, all the time when you need it to. If that doesn't say enough, I guess I can say more about it. Once installed, one of the first things I noticed is how easy the actuation is to push the remote and drop the post. It doesn't take much effort to push down. There isn’t any jumping on the post or making sure you are sitting at the correct angle. As well as it drops, the post returns in a speedy yet controlled manner. Not too fast, not too slow, just right. No accidentally hitting yourself in the wrong area, or not returning fast enough/getting stuck. As said above, it works every time you need it to.

Having a lot of time on the post, in different conditions (including a race), there haven’t been any issues. In terms of service, we tend to remove the seal head to add some Slick Honey, and just double check air pressure maybe every month or so. we probably waited for a full 3 months of riding to do this the first time. This is a preventative service; it wasn't necessary, but I like performing the simple 5-minute procedure.

Final Thoughts:

OneUp Components have hit the nail on the head once again with their dropper post. No gimmicky features, just ones that work and are extremely useful. The price is right, the reliability is there, the adjustability is matched by none, and if the shortest longest option does not have you sold, then I won't feel too bad when you are pedaling back to the trailhead with a post that is stuck down :) I think this dropper post’s popularity has yet to reach its potential, but I wouldn’t be surprised if soon many other companies are looking to replicate this amazing dropper post. Made by a company who puts riding first with parts that work, the OneUp Components dropper post is a shop favorite and should be yours too!
