We all know it's pretty fancy to have electrictronic shifting. However, SRAM's GX AXS doesn't have the fancy price like the others but still has the same performance. Our friend, Michael, has been running the GX AXS setup. See what they think!
Before my GX eagle AXS I had the GX eagle mechanical derailleur and shifter components on my 2021 Specialized Stumpjumper Alloy. (Which for you eagle (haha eagle get it) eyed viewers come with SX eagle but I upgraded to the GX eagle system with the parts I also bought from worldwide cyclery.) Don’t get me wrong, the GX mechanical Derailleur is very nice. In fact, I am doing a bike build and will be using the mechanical derailleur that I took off. But I found that after a while it seemed that I constantly was making micro-adjustments. I do not consider myself a very picky rider or a perfectionist, however when my stuff seems to be messed up or not normal I notice it, and I cannot un-notice it. I guess when it comes to my shifting when stuff gets slightly crunchy or again, not exactly how I want it, it bugs me. The cable would stretch out slightly and just mess the whole shifting around. A simple solution for me? Remove the cable entirely. That’s the one HUGE advantage that I have found with AXS. Set it up once, get it all set how you want which is very easy (especially if you are going from GX eagle to GX eagle AXS), and then boom you’re done and drinking a brewski staring at your fresh ride.
Now that I have told you why I bought it let me give you my honest review of the Sram GX Eagle AXS upgrade kit, THIS DERAILLEUR QUITE LITERALLY SAVED MY LIFE no, just kidding but now that I have your attention, let us talk about the thing you are looking at right now and the most important thing that comes in this package. The chain gap tool on here is 11000/10. It is so easy to use. Once I watched a video on how to set up and how to adjust the B limit, it truly impacted the performance of my bike, shifting is easier and less crunchy. Oh, yea right the derailleur, yea I mean it is also pretty cool I guess. No just kidding again, the derailleur is phenomenal. For the entry-level price, which being electronic shifting is very agreeable in my opinion, it cleaned up my cockpit, and the performance of my shifting has been significantly better. The system shifts underload surprisingly well and I have not had to make any more adjustments. I have ridden it on the trails a couple of times this year and am more than impressed and have no complaints. When I ride by people and shift, it also turns some heads and I mean as long as my bike is nice and clean I definitely do not mind that!
With the whole eagle AXS system, I definitely recommend watching videos about it. There are a couple of hidden features that I did not know about until I had it on my personal bike and had looked some stuff up and educated myself about what it is capable of. Especially downloading the app to track things like battery life and also saving bike profiles. The app is also very easy in my opinion to navigate. Also, going from a normal GX derailleur to the GX AXS, setup quite literally took like 10 minutes at most, very very easy to set up. Replace the derailleur and shifter on the bike, pair the shifter and derailleur, and then pull out whatever is left of your old setup. Just keep some juice in the batteries and forget about it. But yea the chain gap tool is definitely the best part ;)
I am very impressed. I will probably buy this or another Eagle AXS system again.
