RockShox's Reverb AXS dropper post is arguably the most revolutionary version of one of the most innovative mountain bike components of all time. AXS Bluetooth integration offers instant dropper actuation without the hassle of cables. Our friend recently made the switch and loves the tech. Check it out!
People often ask me what I think the biggest innovations in mountain biking have been over the last, whatever - five, ten, maybe fifteen years. My answer hasn't changed over the last five, or ten years - it's hydraulic disc brakes, long, low, and slack trail bike geometry, and dropper posts. Let's face it, modern mountain biking involves stopping on a dime, point and shoot style riding, bombing down absurdly rugged terrain at speeds no man or woman should be achieving on a bicycle, and doing silly stuff on super steep terrain. Today, we're here to talk about the last innovation - the dropper post.
I resisted droppers for a long time because I just didn't understand why I might need such a thing. Finally, however, after getting bucked off my bike like an idiot, I realized I should get my saddle out of the way, and the dropper post was the way to do it. I started with a standard RockShox Reverb, and it was great. Easy install, good reliability, did what it was supposed to. When I began building my no-compromises, basically a vanity-project, money is no object trail bike, I knew I'd be looking at the SRAM AXS family of components. Regular SRAM/ RockShox stuff is good, AXS is beyond good, it's great! The ability to forgo cables is revolutionary. While my dream-bike has internally routed cable channels, I don't have to worry about those with AXS.
I can swap my AXS Reverb dropper post between bikes, which is pretty cool - I only have to spend the money on a dropper once and can use it across multiple platforms.
Currently, I swap my RockShox AXS Reverb dropper post between three bikes, with three very different purposes (Yeti SB130 trail bike, Yeti ARC hardtail, and a fat bike), and I no longer have to worry about cable wear or fray (issues I've had with other posts by other dropper post manufacturers). SRAM has thrown some nice features in on this dropper post as well, including a single bolt for the saddle, another single bolt for saddle angle, and a valve that lets you bleed air in the unlikely chance you get bubbles in your hydraulic line.
I've been riding this RockShox Reverb AXS dropper post for the better part of a full season, with about 450 miles under my belt, and it's been totally bulletproof. I've charged the dropper post battery twice, and haven't touched the controller battery (which is a standard watch battery, available at any drug-store, or via Amazon). When people ask me if this dropper post is worth it, I say unequivocally, "You can't put a price on quality." If you want the best dropper post on the market, buy this!
