Wireless components have been the trend lately with brands like SRAM and RockShox taking the lead. The RockShox Reveb AXS dropper post has been a hit from day 1, with riders across the world opting for a no cable dropper post setup. Check out this customer's review to get his thoughts!
I recently purchased the RockShox Reverb AXS Dropper seatpost - 31.6mm, 100mm, Black, AXS Remote, A1. I needed to make this purchase due to the type of vehicle I transport my bike in. To make a long story short the seatpost has to come out for the mobile bed to lower into position. Using a standard dropper seat post that is cable actuated is possible but would create difficulty and be time-consuming. Thus my choices were limited.
There are two electronic dropper seat posts on the market that I know of Magura and RockShox. The reviews of both have not been stellar and the RockShox is certainly the more expensive choice. However, with the history of using RockShox components for the last several years, I decided to take the plunge, 800 bucks OUCH! Install was a breeze. No cables to manage. Getting the remote to talk to the seatpost was easy as well. Total time from box to riding about 10 minutes.
Let me start the ride review by saying that generally, I have not been keen on dropper seat posts, most likely due to the first generation of them that were heavy and not so easy to use. I also must admit I initially just used the dropper seat posts in a fully up or down position and thus I was not really using them properly. Well with the RockShox Reverb AXS I found it very easy to set the seat post in any position and the very slight delay in the electronic signal reaching the seat post to allow it to return to the full up position or to adjust the height to really not be an issue.
Within a couple of rides, I was comfortably using the seat post and shortly thereafter found myself riding technical sections of the trails I frequent faster and more comfortably.
I have not found battery life an issue even on long rides of six to seven hours. A battery change is easy, pop out the used one and place a recharged one in its place and you are ready to go.
For me personally, now travel is simplified as I can remove the seat post from my bike drop the bed in my van into proper position without having to deal with pulling the actuator cable through the frame and hanging the seatpost next to the bike with a kinked cable. So a win-win for me. I would have to say the seat post has functioned perfectly since I purchased it and I have no complaints except for the price.
Eight hundred dollars is really a lot to pay for this technology, I suspect that the price for this technology will drop and there will be more brand choices in the near future. I am happy with my purchase but please don't let my wife know!
