Overview

I got a great deal on the Maxxis Ardent Race 29 x 2.35" tire from the guys at Worldwide Cyclery in late May 2018. What more can I say, it's a Maxxis! I purchased the Maxxis Ardent Race as a rear replacement tire. I was previously running an Ikon 2.35" tire. I have an Ardent 2.4" up front. I really enjoyed the setup; decent grip up front and a fast roller in the rear. However, I wanted to change to the Ardent Race for the cornering grip without compromising rolling speed. That is exactly what I got!

First Ride Impressions

First few rides out with the Ardent Race, I did not notice a change in speed. It felt just as quick on the trails as the Ikon. Climbing felt solid with the Ardent Race as it provided plenty of grip. On the descents, it felt very fast and secure. I was able to push hard. I really appreciated the Ardent Race on the corners. The Ardent Race provided great traction and grip throughout every corner. I was able to negotiate the turns/corners faster and with much much more confidence! I am very impressed and happy with the Ardent Race. I run 30mm wide rims and the Ardent Race fits and feels great! I think it's the perfect tire for the trails I usually ride which are XCish with plenty of techy climbs/descents. For those of you concerned about weight, the Ardent Race weighs nearly the same as the Ikon 2.35". Enough said!

Final Thoughts

If you are looking for a great rear tire that provides plenty of cornering grip AND overall speed, I highly recommend the Maxxis Ardent Race.
