Measuring your shock hardware can be important when installing a new rear shock on your bike. Making sure that you have the correct hardware width will ensure a tight fit in the frame. Here we are going to explain specifically how to measure your shock hardware.
The easiest and most accurate way to measure your shock hardware is using a Park Tool DC-1 Digital Caliper. Digital calipers are great because they will give you a repeatable and accurate measurement.
One way to measure the width of the shock hardware is to measure the distance between the shock mounting tabs on the frame of the bike. To get the same measurement, you may also measure the width across the shock eyelet. Lastly, to find the shock bolt diameter, measure the inner diameter of the hardware eyelet.
