A quality dropper seatpost is one of those things that once you experience it, you will be hard pressed to live without it. Fox makes the Transfer post which is one of the highest quality and most reliable posts that we have ridden. Isaiah recently installed one on his bike and loves it. Read on for more!
I had many options in buying/upgrading my Fox Dropper post. I chose Worldwide Cyclery because they seem to genuinely care about their customers. Communication was spot on and I couldn’t be happier with the new post! The product itself, Fox Transfer Performance Dropper Post 30.9 150mm, is phenomenal.
I had the original Specialized command post dropper from 2016. When comparing the two, it’s night and day. The product is straight-up durable. Installation was easy (as long as you referenced YouTube).
Originally my bike (2016 Stumpjumper comp fatty) had a 125mm dropper. I needed something more durable as I kept having to grease up my old dropper because it would get stuck after every ride. I hated having to manually pull on my seat to get it back up into the top position. It defeated the purpose of having a lever. It was also a lot of maintenance having to use the shock pump to compress air into the system to keep the pressure. I now notice that I no longer have to pump air into the dropper as Fox’s technology doesn’t require that. So less maintenance is key.
One of the main reasons I went with a brand name like Fox is that they usually make durable equipment. I did a lot of research (watching YouTube on the couch) to decide which was going to be the best fit for my specific model of bike. Factors included the cost and the availability. I liked that fox had two options as far as finish and of course the various sizes. As a general rule, usually the more expensive it is the better the product. So I decided on the performance model at 150mm of travel. I added 25mm of travel from my previous dropper, which may not seem like too much but when you're on the trail and you need to get that saddle out of the way, it helps! Personally, I feel that 150mm is perfect for my height and my riding style.
Summing up this product is easy because it does what it’s supposed to do.
Easy installation, smooth return from top to bottom, and requires low maintenance.
It even has the ability to come up slow and controlled based on how hard you press the lever. Overall I can’t recommend this product enough. My last helpful tip is to make sure you do your research to find which one will fit your bike's geometry.
If you are contemplating getting this dropper do not hesitate. My only regret is that I didn’t upgrade it sooner. If you have never had a dropper and you’re looking to add one, get ready to have your mountain biking experience change.
