Mountain Biking In The Dolomites: Our Favorite Trails, Views, Food & More [Video]

There's plenty of reasons why you should go on a bucket list MTB trip to the Italian Alps, but we're here to give you a few more. From the incredible food, to the jaw dropping views, and of course world class mountain bike trails, these are our favorite parts of a mountain bike trip in the Dolomites.

A mountain bike trip to the Dolomites is the ultimate cheat code for riders who want to ride world-class dirt by day and live like royalty by night. We recently wrapped up an unforgettable trip with All Mountain Rides, and it was a masterclass in how to do a bike trip right. You show up with your bike (or rent from one of the local shops), ride your face off, meet incredible people, and eat some of the best food on the planet.

If you are on the fence about booking a flight, here is exactly why the Dolomites need to be at the top of your bucket list.

Basecamp: Hotel Villa Eden in Corvara

Right in the heart of Corvara, Hotel Villa Eden served as our launchpad. The routine is flawless: you ride all day, come back, and hit their wellness center. We’re talking cold plunges, saunas, and steam rooms to bring your battered legs back to life. After treating your body right, you clean up and sit down to chef-prepared meals that make you completely forget you were covered in mud just a few hours prior.

The Shredding: World Cup Tracks and Flow Laps

You go to the Dolomites for the views, but you stay for the dirt. Canazei is legendary for hosting the Enduro World Cup, and getting to ride those exact race tracks is an absolute treat.

  • Tutti Frutti: The crown jewel of the area. It starts high on an exposed ridgeline with massive views before pitching straight down into a steep, highly technical descent. Once you drop into the tree line, it transforms into a puzzle of roots and switchbacks.

  • Double U and Zacan: When you need a break from the tech, these blue flow trails deliver. 'Double U' is packed with jumps and flow to get you warmed up, while 'Zacan' throws in sick wood features before connecting to another local favorite, Infinity.

  • 9,90: Named after the price of the chainsaw used to build it. It’s a gnarly, steep, unforgiving beast. In the dry, it’s a blast. In the wet—which we experienced—the slick roots and rocks become a terrifying, muddy wake-up call for anyone used to dry, blown-out Southern California dirt.

The Views

You can't talk about this region without mentioning the scale of the riding and the incredible views everywhere you look.

  • The Sellaronda: This is an absolute highlight of the region. You circumnavigate the massive Sella group riding world class trails connected by a vast network of chairlifts, gondolas, and cable cars. You ride from town to town, dropping in for an epic descent, grabbing a drink, and catching the next lift.

  • Pale di San Martino: One of the most unique rides on earth and a signature ride of this trip. You take a cable car up to a massive plateau that genuinely feels like riding a bike on the moon. It starts with an extremely rocky trail featuring some exposure, then drops you into a lush, Yosemite-style valley with a rifugio waiting right at the bottom.

Swanky Rifugios and Fueling the Fire

Yes, mountain bikers are dirtbags at heart, but we aren't turning down world class meals and hospitality. The on-mountain huts, or rifugios, are on another level. Rifugio Salei and Rifugio Federola are standouts—stunning interior, breathtaking views, incredible food, and staff who treat you like a respectable human being even when you walk in dripping with trail mud. Whether it's complex pasta dishes at the hotel, a massive Caesar salad on the Sellaronda, or just a plate of fries with mayo and an affogato, you are never far from elite fuel.

Beyond the massive descents and Michelin-quality meals, a trip to the Dolomites is about the shared experience. It’s laughing about terrifying wet roots over a beer, making friends with the incredibly dog-friendly locals (and the slightly skeptical trail cows), and banking memories on some of the most spectacular terrain on earth.
