We have said it many times and I will say it again, saddle choice is all personal preference. There is no one best saddle, only the one that is best for you. Our recent video covering our favorite saddles and fitment tips is perfect if you have been struggling to find the right saddle for you. Fortunately, Ergon makes multiple great saddle options and today we are here discussing the SM Pro model.
When it comes to looks, the Ergon SM Pro hits the nail on the head. It is a stealthy, race-inspired, and features grooves along the top which give it an aggressive look. I am also a big fan of the all-black aesthetic and taint trench. Prior to riding the SM Pro, I had not tried a saddle with this design (more on this later). The SM Pro weighs in at a respectable 235g, making it a great choice for riders looking to keep their bike light and fast. The saddle also comes in three colors including black, red, and blue as well as 2 size options.
With most saddles, there is a bit of an adjustment phase when you first get on it. At first, I was not sure if I could ride it but after a few days, I began to adjust and get comfortable on the new saddle. As I mentioned earlier, prior to the Ergon SM Pro my saddle did not have a relief channel or “taint trench,” as we like to call it. So needless to say, I was excited to see what all the hype was about. Was it game-changing? I wouldn’t say that but it was definitely more comfortable than what I had been used to riding.
After riding the Ergon SM Pro for a few months now, I have little to complain about. I am able to stay comfortable on long rides and have had no issues with tears or damage of any kind. The taint trench has been an added surprise that I did not anticipate either. I must say that I am a fan and plan to continue riding with the SM Pro for the foreseeable future.
