Overview

Saddle choice is very much a matter of personal preference and is arguably the most important contact point for long days on the bike. For me, the most important features of a saddle are comfort and style (in that order). The WTB saddle that came with my Nomad was just OK – it was decently comfortable, a little small and stiff, and looked boring on the bike. I anticipated selecting a new saddle to be a process of trial and error, and with my local shops lacking in selection I figured it would be best to order online, potentially going through a lengthy process of multiple orders and returns.

Since its difficult to determine comfort and performance based on online information, I chose the Chromag Trailmaster LTD Saddle based on its style. The leather on the seat just looks classy, and the pine color option seemed like it would match the olive accents on my bike while also making it stand out.

When the package arrived, the quality of the product was evident. The leather is very nice and I try to keep it that way by applying leather balm every now and then. Comfort wise, it was just what I was looking for. It is a bit bigger than the saddle I replaced, slightly softer (but not too soft), and the contours match well with my, um, points of contact. This comfort translates into performance for me; it just feels good on long climbs. It is probably a bit heavier than most saddles designed for pure performance, but the comfort and style make this sacrifice well worth the weight for me.

I have taken a few falls where the saddle has been subjected to some minor scuffing. The material does not seem to be deteriorating, and some leather balm helps make the wear add some natural character to the leather.

Final Thoughts

I can’t say for sure that this saddle will work well for everyone, but if you are after comfort and style, I recommend giving the Chromag Trailmaster LTD a try.
