Upgrading your crankset with the common offerings wouldn't be the most exciting thing in the world to some. That is unless its something like a lightweight titanium crank. Our friend Mike gives us the lowdown on the Cane Creek eeWings Mountain Titanium Crankset. Check it out!
The Cane Creek eeWings Titanium cranks are totally worth the money. Compared to my previous cranks the eeWings are more durable, lighter, and perform better with unmatched stiffness. Not to mention they were easy to install. Compared to other cranks that I have had in the past the eeWings are reliable in that other cranks that were made of carbon developed play where the spindle and the crank are fitted together since the adhesive bonding does not bond with well with metal/aluminum and carbon. Also, Cane Creek comes with the perfect fitment and spacers. I was very happy with the fitment guide and included spacers. Cane Creek took all the guesswork out of centering the cranks. I had problems with other brands in that one crank/pedal is farther on one side and the other pedal and crank are closer to the center of the bike.
Other crank manufacturers are not clear or wrong about spacer placement which results in improper pedal distance from pedal from a seated position. Not to mention Cane Creek's spindles are the proper width and do not need any aftermarket spacers to fit the cinch system. In addition, to build quality, the included pre-load collar is made of aluminum and it is not a cheap nylon collar. One of Cane Creek’s competitor uses the nylon collar which is not durable and unreliable. I use the nylon pre-load collar to cinch my carbon cranks and it broke during a ride and created play in the cranks, which almost caused me to be stranded miles from my truck.
The cranks are worth the money, because they will outlast other cranks, and due to the cinch system, they can be used on your next bike, even if it is several years until you by a new bike. The eeWings will outlast your bike! If you value cycling and want the relief of knowing your cranks are reliable and not going to get you stranded, the eeWings are worth every penny. I enjoy riding without worrying about something going wrong.
In conclusion, titanium eeWing cranks are extremely durable, they are not going to fail, unlike the possibility of carbon crank failure. eeWings will give you more pedaling efficiency due to their stiffness over carbon. As a bonus, you do not need to add washers between pedals that are required on carbon cranks. And finally, you do not need the extra insurance of cranks boots that are required on carbon cranks since carbon cranks don’t do well with rock strikes. To see how strong the eeWings are, go to Cane Creek's website and watch the videos that demonstrate their strength over carbon competitors. Not to mention, the videos are very hilarious!
