We all remember how finicky the early dropper seat posts were. It seems like we were always needing to send them back for a rebuild. Wolf Tooth designed their seat post so no one needs to send back their dropper post when it gets the dreadful sag. See what our customers think of the Wolf Tooth Resolve post!
I purchased the new Wolf Tooth Resolve Dropper Seat Post in search of a more positive feel and faster extension on my Ibis Ripmo AF. I rode with the KS Rage-I Dropper that came spec’d on my Ripmo for just over for one season and could never get it to perform the way I wanted. I replaced the cable, installed a Wolf Tooth dropper lever, and serviced it. It continued to have issues sticking and seemed to require too much force on the lever to release it. I was about to order a BikeYoke Revive dropper and then Wolf Tooth released the new Resolve Dropper. This sent me back into analysis paralysis which ended with the decision that the Resolve was the one.
I have been using Wolf Tooth components for years and have had good luck with their levers, headset spacers, clamps & bags. After reviewing the Resolve’s features and design I was excited to test it out. The self-bleeding feature, the ability to adjust travel and service the post was all important to me.
Fitting the post onto my Ripmo was very straight forward. With the seat tube length and the design of the Resolve I was able to fit a 200mm travel stem on a Size L frame that came with a 170mm stem originally. I can insert the post all the way to the top flange, but my ideal riding position is 30mm up which barely exposed the Wolf Tooth logo. The post did come with helpful guidelines for insertion depth but I ended up going past those in my application.
Wolf Tooth supplied a new cable and housing in the kit which is always a good idea with a new install. With the post installed, the lever action was crisp and the post extended quickly. Dropping the post is very smooth as well and I have yet to have any sign of air in the system. I store my bike vertically so I always cycle to post before a ride. I have been riding it for 3 months and have had minimal cable stretch which was easy to adjust at the lever. No other maintenance needs or concerns at all.
It really has made a big improvement in the feel of the bike any my confidence knowing the post will react quickly & predictably.
The 200mm of travel was immediately noticeable when I hit the trails. I have never been able to ride with such a low dropped seat position. I even found myself with my butt buzzing the tire a couple of times. With the post fully inserted into the tube and in the dropped position, my tire contacted the seat on a hard landing on the first ride. After raising the post 30mm that issue went away, and the height is comfortable.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase of the Resolve Dropper Post. I am careful when selecting components and the fit and feel of a product matter to me. This post exceeded my expectations. Install was simple and the post works reliably. I know there are a lot of other good posts out there but Wolf Tooth got it right on this one.
