If there's one thing that gets a lot of attention on a bike it's the brakes, and for good reason. Your brakes are very important for stopping (obviously) but also just simply how they feel can make for a much more enjoyable ride. Our friend Mark Wyse shares his experience with his TRP Quadiem brake set. Check it out!
The TRP Quadiem brake set has been one of the best upgrades I have made to my bike. After doing a bunch of research, I finally decided on these brakes due to the great price at Worldwide Cyclery and also for the great reviews I read. I was a little bit concerned about the modulation. Coming from Shimano brakes I am used to a hard hitting feel. After riding these brakes I can honestly say I will not be riding anything else in the future. From my impression, there is more modulation than Shimano but less than SRAM brakes. It really has a great feel, especially with the large beefy levers.
The hoses came plenty long enough and were bled very easily with just the basic bleed kit. As someone who does their own bike repairs, these brakes are highly serviceable. Everything including the brake calipers can be taken apart and put back together. This was a huge selling point for me. As for the brake pads, the stock pads provide me plenty of power. I also know that Shimano Saint pads are compatible and should provide a little more braking power.
My typical riding style is very much aimed at going fast downhill. These TRP brakes have allowed me to only become faster. After you get used to the feel, you can scrub speed a little easier due to the modulation or squeeze harder to stop on a dime. I weight about 170 pounds but there is plenty of braking power to tap into that I don't even need to use. It is very confidence inspiring knowing that you always have that extra power if needed. Another big plus is how consistent these brakes are. Even after countless downhill runs there seems to be no fading or sponginess at the levers.
Overall, these are by far the best brakes I have ever owned and highly recommend!!!
