The newest iteration of the Sram Guide brakes is the most versatile brake that Sram offers, and it can be seen on any bike from a World Cup Downhill race bike all the way to a single-speed cross country bike. The Guide brakes balance power and lever modulation, giving the rider a strong and consistent lever feel and more confidence braking late into corners on the trail. Here we are going to discuss the new Guide S4 caliper and highlight the different models of Guide brakes: the Guide Ultimate, RSC, RS, and R.
All of the latest Guide models are matched with the new S4 four-piston caliper. The Guide brakes have always been paired with a four-piston caliper, but the S4 caliper features the new Bleed Edge Technology. This optimizes redesigned oil pathways, making bleeding brakes simple and easy. Bleed Edge Technology uses a dedicated bleed adapter, along with an updated bleed port. These are designed to reduce air contamination and oil loss while bleeding the Guide brakes.
The Guide Ultimate uses the latest and greatest technology from Sram. The Guide Ultimate is designed to be lightweight and powerful, with a carbon lever blade and S4 four-piston caliper. The new S4 caliper uses a redesigned seal, aluminum piston interface, and Bleed Edge technology -- all of which make this brake easier to set up and maintain.
