When it comes to servicing shocks, it's nice to have the right tools for the job. One of our Customers shared his thoughts on the RockShox Rear Shock Vice Block. See what they think!
These RockShox Vise Blocks worked perfectly for me. Most recently I used them for rebuilding my RockShox Reverb A2 seat post. They come into play when you have to unthread the outer seal head from the inner shaft. There are 3 different hole sizes on in the blocks and the 10mm, smallest hole, is used for safely keeping the inner shaft from spinning while the outer seal head is unthreaded. The inner shaft is a very sensitive part and these blocks are really about the only way you can safely hold the shaft to service the seat post. I'm sure the other two hole sizes will come in handy for any other work that might be necessary on a fork or rear shock as well. I know the title of the product mentions the Monarch, Vivid, and Vivid Air as products that these blocks work for, but please note that they work for other products (like my dropper post) if you are thinking about buying them/if they are worth it. I am also not aware of any other product like these on the market. So, these are pretty much your only option. Even if there was another option, these are actually branded by RockShox.
The blocks are clearly machined to a high precision/great quality.
I will note that it's a bit tricky to get them to stay in the vise and set the inner shaft into the hole with just two hands. Another person would have helped, but also a bit longer "shoulder" on the blocks would have helped to keep them on the vise and prevent falling inward due to more of their weight being toward the inside/center. This caused me to actually drop the blocks once, but they held up fairly well to that. Only a few indentations around the edges and corners. Please take a look at the attached picture of these blocks actually being used on the inner shaft of my dropper post. They fit perfectly for safely holding that tube while unthreading the outer seal head.
Everything considered, they are a great product and absolutely necessary for servicing a RockShox dropper post (as well as shocks/forks) without having to worry about damaging expensive and important parts
