Many could say they expected to see SRAM releasing a wireless group set in their AXS ecosystem. But what also took the industry by surprise was the RockShox Reverb AXS, a wireless dropper post. Our customer has been running the dropper post. See what they think!
I purchased this dropper for a complete AXS build on a Trek Fuel EX Gen 6 frame. I was originally hesitant about the price as I love my current OneUp dropper on my old bike, and this dropper is about 4 times the price. Before I purchased the reverb AXS dropper I had to convince my wife who is not a mountain biker that this was the “unicorn” of all droppers, and it was well worth the price. I am pleased to say soon as I opened the box and showed her how it works she said “damn that thing is cool.”
One of the main advantages of a wireless dropper is the ease of installation. You simply take it out of the box, put in the battery, pair it with the controller, stick it in the seat post, torque it up, and you are set. It also has a pressure release valve on the bottom if the post gets “squishy” over time. I travel with my bike all over the country and I have found this is very helpful, especially with large elevation changes.
On my first ride with the dropper, I instantly noticed how light and quick the actuation is. I have run almost every cable-actuated dropper lever on the market and nothing is as fast and smooth as this wireless controller is. The return on the seat post is very quick with a loud pop when it is fully extended. I was concerned that this dropper doesn’t allow you to adjust the return speed like my OneUp dropper, but I don’t think it is necessary since the return speed is perfect out of the box. Another thing I appreciate is that there is little effort needed to compress the dropper. I am a lighter rider (which I call mini-horses), and some other droppers I have used in the past seem like I have to mash on them to get the dropper to go down, but this one is buttery smooth. Another area of this dropper that stands out is the ease of installing and adjusting the saddle. This has been a huge challenge with “cheaper” dropper posts I have used in the past and it seems with some that I can never get the angle of the seat how I want it. With this dropper, you simply turn the dial and can get the seat angle exactly how you want it. It is so simple you could easily do it trailside with a T25 if you wanted to. I read some reviews about this dropper that people were complaining about the tall stack height due to the battery and electronic actuator, but I have not noticed this to be a problem and have no problem getting behind the saddle on descents with this dropper.
I would with no hesitation purchase this dropper again. I feel like you are getting a premium product that is going to work like it is supposed to for years. The wireless setup not only looks clean and sexy, but it just works better than other droppers that I have used.
