When it comes to the sub $500 fork market, RockShox dominates plain and simple. We even did a video with the best forks under $500 and sure enough, RockShox came out on top. Our customer was looking for a fork to finish his hardtail build and went with the RockShox Revelation RC. Check out what he had to say!
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic my trails have been closed so I’ve had to content myself with projects and daydreams of big mountain days with miles of downhill fun. In my mind, the next best thing to riding bikes is building bikes and since it’s been a while since I’ve owned a hardtail I figured it was high time I built myself an aggressive hardtail to breathe new life into my local trails (as soon as they open back up again).
I was looking for a fork to complete the new hardtail build but I didn’t want to get crazy on cost, considering that so far my budget has gone out the window and my wife is getting suspicious of all the boxes showing up to my house. After much looking around and deliberation, I stumbled across Jeff’s review of ‘Best MTB Suspension Forks Under $500’ on Worldwide Cyclery. The video was super informative and I was able to narrow down my decision to two forks; the Marzocchi Bomber Z2 and the RockShox Revelation RC. I ultimately decided on the Rockshox Revelation for the slightly better adjustability and for the fact that I can upgrade the damper in the future to match the Pike since they share the same stanchion diameter if I ever feel like this fork is underperforming. For what I’m intending for this fork I doubt it will ever be necessary to upgrade the damper but I find it comforting to know that I have the option to do so if I ever get the desire.
I went with the 29er fork so I can easily swap wheelsets from one bike to another depending on what trail I’m riding that day.
The ordering process was extremely easy and the guys here on the support team were quick to answer any questions I had regarding fit and compatibility for my wheels and tires. The product was delivered in a reasonable amount of time considering the pandemic and mostly I think the delay was on the shipping company’s side and not the fault of Worldwide Cyclery.
Installation of the new fork was as easy as any new fork and I think it looks super rad on the new bike. Something I didn’t really take into consideration initially but have grown to appreciate greatly is that the post mounts on this fork are already set up for 180mm rotors and since that is what I typically run in the front on hardtails the brake installation was a breeze and it didn’t matter that I forgot to buy the post mount adapter.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the purchase and with my experience dealing with Worldwide Cyclery. These guys rock and will definitely maintain me as a customer.
