Are you someone that has all of your own tools to maintain your bike or have you buddied up with your local bike shop? Overview

After taking my bike to the local shop on what seemed like a monthly basis, and especially after banging derailleur hangers while on vacation, I decided to take the plunge and buy the Park Tool Derailleur Alignment Gauge. Having to find a shop at the last minute over something so simple isn't very fun, especially when you're 1000 miles from home, trying to pack as many rides into your trip as possible. I've only had this gauge for 2 months and I've already used it at least half a dozen times, so it's already paid for itself.

Setup

It's very simple to use once you assemble it. Simply unscrew your derailleur from the hanger, screw the gauge into the hanger, and you're all set. Check the alignment left/right and up/down and if it's bent, any gaps will be quite obvious, and easy to correct too.

Final Thoughts

This is, in my opinion, a must-have in the toolbox of any serious mountain biker. I just wish I hadn't wasted so much money paying people to align my derailleur hangers before deciding to finally buy one myself.
