OneUp is notorious for creating innovative products that challenge the market. Their recently released Carbon Handlebar holds up to the reputation and offers compliance to riders that we have never seen offered in a carbon bar before. Let's see if Ross liked the One Up Carbon Handlebars or not!
I decided that I wanted to switch my aluminum handlebar to a carbon one to see what the hype was all about. To see if there was really a noticeable difference. There is a lot of hype about the Oneup carbon bar so that seemed like the best option. Plus I have the Oneup Pump and EDC Tool and it's been awesome! I got the OneUp stem to go with the bar too so that I'll have the option of putting the EDC tool in the stem if I decide to do that.
First off, the bar looks cool. It's a semi-shiny carbon look, so if nothing else it will impress your riding buddies. It was easy to install on my Ripmo along with the stem. I have a torque wrench which was helpful to get the stem and bar just right. I don't think I'd try this install without a torque wrench. I used some carbon paste on the bar where the stem clamps down on it. I had to shave down my steerer tube the tiniest bit to get it to fit right because this stem was a slightly different height than the Ibis stem that I had. My old bar had a 9-degree backsweep and this one has an 8-degree backsweep. I feel like I can tell the difference, that I have a little bit more reach, but it's not a bad thing.
"Now to the difference in feel while riding. I guess I'd have to say, I'm not sure. The bar works great and is solid. I never had the chance to ride it back to back to compare it to my old bar, so I'm not sure if there is a noticeable difference between carbon and aluminum. The bar feels great, but I didn't think my old bar was bad either. I haven't noticed any drawbacks though. It seems to work as a handlebar should, and it looks cool too. So the moral of the story is if you've got some cash to burn and want your bike to look cool, go get one!" - Ross
