We love Mondraker bikes, we personally think they are some of the best-looking bikes on the market, and they ride equally as well. We have reviewed their bikes in the past like the Mondraker Foxy Carbon, and owned and ridden other bikes like the Mondraker F-Podium DC. Great longer travel or shorter travel bikes. But there was a bike missing from their lineup, and that is the ultimate trail bike, a quiver killer as people like to say. Now Mondraker is making that bike, and it looks amazing. New, the Mondraker Raze, a 130mm rear/150mm front travel trail bike that has been optimized for both the ups and the downs.
Also updated is the beloved Mondraker Foxy Carbon, with 150mm rear travel/160mm front travel, and adjustable geometry. The Foxy Carbon sits just below their longer travel “super enduro” bike at 160mm/170mm travel, but don't let that deter you from the Foxy Carbon, it’s ready to tackle any trail you can throw at it.
As mentioned above, the Raze is designed to be the ultimate trail bike, with suspension kinematics specifically tuned to have the best of both worlds when it comes to climbing and descending. We have some Raze Carbon R coming in early 2022, call our customer service team to find out more details about those models.
The Raze range is comprised of three models: Raze RR SL, Raze RR and Raze R. All of them share the same carbon fiber frame and spectacular aesthetics, thanks in part to the shapes of their tubing, their design, and their colors. Additionally, all three models feature 150mm FOX 36 forks combined with Fox shocks offering 130mm of rear-wheel travel.
RAZE RR SL: 12.2 kg / Deep Purple - Flame
Red RAZE RR: 12.5 kg / Racing Silver - Yellow
RAZE R: 13.2 kg / Carbon - Black - Racing Silver
Without having ridden the new Raze, I can’t do a full comparison from a riding standpoint. But what I can do is tell you what I think this bike will be like or compare it to. The Raze is an aggressive trail bike 130mm rear travel and spec’d with a 150mm fork, this puts it up to the Yeti SB130 exactly, and I think that these two bikes are actually much more similar than that. Both have almost the same geometry, with the Raze being a touch longer on reach and wheelbase. What the bikes are made to do are identical as well, both aimed to be amazing and efficient climbers while able to handle some chunky terrain. Once we get our hands on the new Raze we can go more into detail about the riding performance.
The Foxy Carbon is now a staple in the Mondraker lineup of bikes, and also happen to be one of the most fun too. The sharp lines of the Foxy made it instantly desirable and when I owned one a few years ago I always got lots of comments about this bike. Now updated with some new geometry adjustments, tidy cable routing through the headset, the new Foxy Carbon is better than ever! We have some Foxy Carbon R & RR coming in early 2022, call our customer service team to find out more details about those models.
The new Foxy Carbon range is comprised of 3 different models sharing the same frame but with different component specs as follows: The Foxy Carbon XR is the most radical of the three with 170mm of travel at the front and 150mm at the rear. It comes fitted with the prestigious Öhlins suspension (RFX 36 fork and TTX Air shock absorber), the drivetrain is provided by SRAM with an X01 Eagle derailleur, DT Swiss EXC1501 Carbon Spline 29 wheels; SRAM G2 RSC brakes, and ONOFF components including the Krypton Carbon 1.0 handlebar. The Foxy Carbon RR has 160mm of travel at the front and 150mm at the rear, with a Fox fork and shock, an SRAM drivetrain with GX Eagle derailleur; DT Swiss EX1700 Spline 29 wheels; SRAM G2 R brakes, and ONOFF components. The Foxy Carbon R also comes fitted with Fox suspension with 160mm at the front and 150mm at the rear, SRAM’s NX Eagle drivetrain, DT Swiss E1900 Spline 29 wheels, SRAM G2 R brakes, and ONOFF components including the Pija dropper seatpost. All three models offer the option of adjustable geometry, thus allowing their riders to customize their bikes to their liking. Available in 4 different sizes: S, M, L, and XL.
FOXY CARBON XR: 12.9 kg / British Racing Green - Carbon - Yellow
FOXY CARBON RR: 13.4 kg / Marlin Blue - Carbon
FOXY CARBON R: 14.1 kg / Cherry Red - Carbon
Having ridden and owned the previous generation Foxy Carbon, the new improvements are small but really just dial in this bike to keep it modern in a continuously evolving market. This bike is very similar to a Yeti SB150, both having 150mm rear travel and are extremely efficient for how much bike you have. With the Foxy being a touch steeper with the 160mm fork on the stock bikes, but if you bump it up to 170mm the geo pretty much matches. What sets the Foxy Carbon apart is the ability to adjust the geo with both a “standard” & “low” setting as well as a short and long chainstay setting. Both of these allow the rider to make slight tweaks to their geometry so the Foxy Carbon best suits their riding style. Some other rad improvements are the clean cable routing that goes into the headset, which makes these Mondrakers look even better.
Mondraker makes bikes that look just as good as they ride, and we are stoked to see these two new models for 2022. Not only see them but also have some coming in next year. The Raze filled a hole in the Mondraker lineup and is ready to be that quiver killer. The new Foxy Carbon takes the best parts from its previous form and takes the adjustments and details to the next level.
