Some say the Maxxis DHF and DHRII tire combo is like peanut butter and jelly. They just go perfectly together and provide an extremely predictable and grippy ride. Our customer Matthew wanted to swap out his Assegai for some tan wall Maxxis DHF and DHRII tires. Check out what he had to say!
You know, I’ve always been an Assegai, but when I opened the box to see the two tan beauties that was the Maxxis DHF and the DHR II tires, I had to reconsider my whole life. Once the tan wall baddies were mounted on my Santa Cruz Nomad she looked incredible. Feeling pretty proud of myself, I showed it to my friends who high-fived me and remarked “jaw-dropping” and “one of the coolest bikes I’ve ever seen” as my neighbors put it. Although, the tan sidewalls didn’t quite match in color, after a few rides the darker tan lightened up and the lighter tan got a little dirtier. Paired with the tan ODI Vans Grips the colorway had me screaming with joy every time I got on the bike. Ask my girlfriend, I literally screamed for a week about how cool my bike looks. I truly couldn’t be happier.
Enough about the looks, let's talk about the performance of these tires. This time I decided to run with the 2.4 x 2.3 front-rear combo instead of my usual 2.5 x 2.4. The smaller tires made for a huge difference when pedaling uphill and did not sacrifice any grip on the downhill. The grip I got from the Maxxis tires was instantly noticeable and the DHR II especially stood out to me as one of the best tires I’ve ever ridden. Cornering over sandy and dusty conditions was no longer scary, I could lean the bike over with confidence knowing those nobs would keep me on my line and grabbing those PR’s on Strava. Living in Durango, CO the dry, dusty, loose over hard conditions proved to be a walk in the park for the DHR II. And when the one day of rain a year comes, the tire is ready to eat the brown pow by the spoonful.
The DHF is no slouch either. Even though this was not my first DHF, the durability of the tires proved to be just as good as their traditionally colored sidekicks, even though there is no double down or extra rubber in the side walls.
The experience I had purchasing through Worldwide Cyclery was a great time as well. The hilarious emails I received about my products getting prepared and shipped on 1000 thread count Egyptian magic carpet had my rolling on the floor. And they were able to get everything to me in a relatively short amount of time despite the world events we have going on around us. It only took about a week before I opened my front door to see my happy little package waiting for me on my doorstep. I would absolutely recommend not only these tires but the whole Worldwide Cyclery team to all of my friends. Thank you! You guys rock!
