I was lucky enough to get the Fox Shox Transfer Dropper Post for Christmas just a month ago from my partner/MTB-riding buddy :) I knew it was supposed to be top of the line when it comes to dropper posts but it definitely exceeded my expectations. If I'm being honest, I didn't think there was anything wrong with my old dropper post. It was "good enough" to me.
Prior to the Fox Shox Transfer, I was using the KS Eten-I Integra which is a solid dropper post but definitely at the budget end of the spectrum. It was meeting my needs, both financially and on the trail. One thing that my partner noticed is that many times I would try to raise the dropper post and it wouldn't get to the fully raised position before I ended up sitting down and pedaling again. This wasn't super obvious to me, but he seemed to think that it was something that we should improve upon. Also, since I'm a smaller rider on a bigger frame, I use a 100mm dropper post. This small size limits my selection a bit and my partner was happy to see that Fox supported this size.
The Fox Shox Transfer goes up and down like a dream! Wow! During those rides when you need to quickly adjust it is so reliable. I don't end up with the dropper post partway up anymore and it's changed my riding. Probably one of the most satisfying parts about using it is the very audible "pop" it makes when it gets to its maximum height. This allows you to know for sure that you've gotten the post all of the way up OR all of the way down. I absolutely love it! 5 out of 5 for performance. The best part is other than the "pop," I have totally forgotten about the dropper post. Since it does exactly what I want at all times, I can think more about my technique, the scenery, or that next pesky obstacle to tackle.
In terms of installation, my partner states that it was quite easy to install and he was able to finish it in 10 to 15 minutes. One thing to note though is that it did not come with the shift cable (I'm a little surprised that Fox didn't include this personally). Luckily we just used the one we already had. I also decided to add a wolf tooth dropper lever while doing this installation and have been very happy with the combination. 5 out of 5 for installation. I highly recommend the Fox Shox Transfer if you are looking for a high quality, responsive, and reliable dropper seat post that can really make a difference during rides that require frequent adjustment.
