This review was written by one of our customers, Jason Kanar. After buying a new bike last year, he wanted to make a suspension upgrade, and throwing a new fork on there was just the thing to take his bike to the next level. Check out his thought on the RockShox Reba RL suspension fork!
I bought a new bicycle late last year and quickly realized I was in the market for a new suspension fork. The stock fork was from SR Suntour. The best feature was the lockout. I started looking at suspension options from Rockshox and initially my focus was on the Recon Gold range. I knew the Recon could do the job but I wanted a fork that would really last and could take a beating, no problem.
I decided to go with the Reba RL fork over Recon Gold for its superior quality, greater serviceability, and lighter weight. The Reba is simple to use. After setting the air pressure, there is just the rebound and lockout to fiddle with. The rebound rate has a wide range of adjustment. This is my first air sprung fork and I find it to be much more adjustable than coil sprung forks I’ve rode in the past. I tend to set the rebound four clicks away from the fastest setting. There are about 13 clicks in between the fastest and slowest rebound setting so it’s easy to know where I am in that range. The fork comes packaged with a high-pressure pump and an extra set of service seals.
The Reba RL can be purchased with or without the OneLoc remote. I chose to include the remote and thankfully so; it makes switching in and out of lockout so quick and easy. Also, with lockout engaged, the internal floodgate allows the fork to absorb large unexpected bumps.
The Reba is classified as a cross-country fork. However, real world trails rarely fall into just one category of riding. For instance, I regularly encounter downhill sections on trails that I ride. The Reba handles these sections quite well considering the 100mm of travel. I just can’t carry as much speed as I would with a downhill fork.
Overall the Reba RL fork is a solid upgrade and a great investment. I feel more confident when I ride because I know I can count on Reba.
