Recently purchased the Backcountry Research Mutherload Frame Strap. I have put it to use now on my Santa Cruz Hightower LT here in Bellingham, Washington for about a month. Here are my thoughts so far!
It is a simple design and is holding up well. I use it in conjunction with the BR Tube Tarp just to keep my spare tube tidy and cleanish. I have used this strap to hold a tube, crank brothers multi and a tire lever. It held all that solid to the frame and didn’t look too bulky. I recently purchased the Oneup Components Pump and EDC Tool and have since mounted that to my Hightower LT under my bottle cage and really like that setup. So now my strap is just holding a tube. But it does it well.
I have been on well over a dozen rides. Some muddy, requiring some major hosing off post ride. I have left the Mutherload Strap and tube in place every time. So far no noted issues and it seems to dry quickly in my garage between rides. I have pulled the strap off a few times to change the load and have noticed the Velcro’s security deteriorating slightly, so a long term review may be necessary to see how it holds up.
I like the feature that holds the tube to the Mutherload Strap. It makes mounting on the bike really easy. If the strap ends up lasting I will be happy with the purchase. If the Velcro ends up going kaputt I will switch back to the OneUp EDC Gear Strap. So far so good though.
