ladies and gentlemen welcome to episode 142 of the MTB podcast presented and
hosted by worldwide cycy I'm Jared I'm Liam I'm Trevor that's right ladies and gentlemen and today in this episode we
will discuss Liam and Trevor's Bucket List Mexico City mountain bike trip some fancy new bike parts and new Frameworks
in Duro bike and listener questions ranging from if there's anything more to life than riding mountain bikes two
frame storage tire pressures rearshock climbing switches and everything in between wow your announcer voice is on
point today I prepared a little bit for that one the olive oil voice the olive
oil voice man with the olive oil voice the man with the olive oil voice well ladies and gentlemen Zach's words of
wisdom when facing a hard challenge turn it into a competition it's a lot more fun that way did he actually say that uh
he he did tell me that as words of wisdom today yeah yeah pretty good better than last week I like it I agree
with that yeah it's I I 100% agree with it like great great example when we did our uh weight loss challenge competition
a few years ago I guess is what it was that motivated everybody to it was rain like
crap poorly executed maybe but the guy organized it also won that's weird no it
was definitely uh weird but what you know anytime there's
a competition you know like a mileage competition or whatever it is like it's
a huge motivation we had to stop doing competitions here we did it gets too competitive it actually yeah fires
people up a little bit too much and everybody wants to win they're like yeah how I didn't win well you know things
happen speaking of things happening Daniel's fun fact as of 2022 Madagascar
has a larger population than Australia that's pretty crazy actually is that including animals
but I don't think it does include animals cuz I guess if you include Australia's animals you got to includ Karo that is a lot of you know a lot of
animals out there I'm sure there's a lot of animals in Madagascar as well though there's got to be just like the movie just like the movie
I it is the movie I mean the movie is obviously based on mostly fact right 100% I think most of Australia's space
is uninhabitable or 100% or not inhabited yet not inhabited yet right or probably ever will be yeah the Outback
the Outback yeah go out get another shrimp on the Bobby fantastic testimonials love listening to these
guys they obviously love to ride and adventure and it gets me excited to do the same listening to them tell Tales of
their adventures and hear their talks with their vast knowledge of bikes and gear is awesome I want all the kettle
gear Ryan thanks Ryan thanks Ryan cheers mate really nice of you to say those kind
words speaking of things bikes and rides we've been enjoying lately you guys just got back from Mexico City in the last
podcast we were talking about how you guys were about to go and now we're going to talk about what you did and and
we went and you went and now we're back and now you're back we're back we survived you survived Y how was it tell
us all the all the dirty details all the dirty Deets um yeah it was fun good
riding you had a good time it looked sick yeah it was awesome um went down we
stayed in Mexico City we stayed in the nice part uh so we had this pretty cool like ying-ying balance of staying in the
nice part and going to some nice dinners but also like going out into the country and riding you know straight out in
rural Mexico and the hills and you know taking some crazy shuttles and Roads and
rode pretty much a bunch of sick Trails nice uh we were battling a bit with the rain every day it rained literally every
afternoon wow almost like on time almost on time and we got caught in the rain I
got completely soaked like four times it wasn't just rain it was mon total total thunderstorm down wow thunder lightning
crazy like I guess you're in the mountains right I mean yeah um but it was a blast and everyone on the on the
trip was awesome um you know three customers came with us um they all had a
good time they were all Troopers too for just you know some of the it was it was a first version of this trip right so
like you know there's also kingp worked out and that was kind of why we went right like we went to go feel out some
of the stuff and like you know um but yeah everyone had a good time uh no nothing major happened at all is all
very smooth yeah no Mechanicals mechan solid no issues with you know any of the
stuff the trucks the shuttles the um you know housing food any of that like it's
Mexico so it's like a little bit chaotic down there but things work they just
things happen down there and you feel like they they might not sometimes but they they they find a will way that's
right where there's a there's a way the craziest thing was just like the traffic people down there don't stop for
anything wow stop signs stop lights like they just there's round there's roundabouts down there and there's no
right of way it's like you just play chicken the whole time yeah you're just like if you go if you can get in there you go like yeah taxis literally don't
stop unless they're picking someone up um we had a blast it was it was awesome
good good amount of time to be there not too long not too short AES is cool the the trails that we
for a majority of the time would have been impossible to ride or impossible to shuttle without being on the guided tour
which was cool um you said there's like a lot of it on private land right and sort of private and private road local
knowledge yeah you'd normally be able to Pedal most of it but we were shuttling all of it and which was nice because of
the rain and just the conditions so um yeah just the logistics behind that would have been really hard without the
tour um it was also cool the uh all the meals that we had were just authentic
Mexican meals Awesome every breakfast was made they had um some ladies come in
and make us breakfast every morning and we were leaving at like 700 a.m. so they're cooking at like 5:30 a.m. every
day for using fantastic breakfast every day to where like but we were getting up
so early like one day I was just drinking coffee and I didn't touch my breakfast yet and they're like oh no is it not good and I'm like no it looks
amazing I just woke up you know what I mean like need a second to to get my hung totally yeah you can't just like
Dive Right Hospitality was like top notching there nothing better than like riding all day having a successful
riding day and then going to sit down and eat some authentic Mexican tacos with like a a Mexican Coca-Cola and
maybe a cervesa wow sounds amazing it doesn't really get better than that no um the trails were super cool the trails
were rough it rained so much there so the the trails kind of get beat up with the rain but the dirt was really good
some of it was a little slippery but some of it was like as good as it could be so that was really fun experience ton
of features like every Trail almost every Trail we went down there's a feature too we kind of had to look at
really um a Gap a jump a Rog drop or something like that so sick um a lot of built features which is cool it's just
like you can't really ride the trails blind so like we need to be towed into some of the features you know yeah well
our our main guide is uh he's believe 22y old his name's Irwin Castillo and I
believe he's like one of the Mexican Enduro Champs or he's he wins races down there some Enduro races and he was our
guide super cool guy he spoke a little bit of a little bit of English we spoke a little bit of Spanish so and we were
in the car with him for a while like trying to get to the trails and it was fun to hang out with him but he was a
really good writer so we got to kind of follow him into these features and fully put our trust into him um hitting these
drops and jumps and stuff and um yeah it was super cool that's really sick yeah it's always cool when you get like the
combination of like the sick riding and the cultural experience it's like just very like a collective great experience
that's what you know they're trying to put together and I think they did a good job it was it was cool like to go yeah
some of the trails that we had WR were like like pretty far away from the city and if you were to go to Mexico City
just to even hang out or vacation you would never ever get that kind of experience on your own to kind of see
what the countryside's like see what like hang out with the locals and like yeah just be with all those people um is
super special and yeah super grateful for that it's pretty cool yeah 100% like
that's honestly one of the my favorite things about doing chasing epic trips and you know trips like mountain bike down south or whatever all Mountain
rides is like you have that whole part of the equation like Logistics that like you don't even have to think about and not only that but you would never like
you said you'd never go do that stuff like on your own or like even with a group of homies like be so difficult to you wouldn't even know how to especially
in Mexico yeah you know this was like the one where it's like you pretty much
cannot do this on your own you need the guide you need locals to like show you the way know the people that own these
roads or own the shuttle truck trucks type of thing yeah yeah that's rad so sick uh stoked you guys had a great time
um definitely sounds like a Bucky list type adventure for sure it was sweet like if anyone is interested just like
let us know lit up uh MTB down south that's the the company that's doing it and um yeah I would highly recommend it
to anybody who's interested in checking out Mexico City they're also doing a tour of Patagonia I believe um so that's
another cool thing that they've done that a couple times before on their own so um yeah that would be a cool bucket
list is would be to go ride your bike in Patagonia for sure that's super sick wow
that gets me excited for some mountain bike trips next year because we're kind of getting towards the end of the season I guess for trips this year but yeah but
desert season's about to start that's true and you guys are about to go to Whistler pretty soon I heard that's pretty sick yeah yep oh my God I'm so
jealous yeah Li and I are going to Whistler in a in a few couple weeks wow and uh that should be cool I haven't been a Whistler since 2018 or 2019 wow
so it's been a it's been a bit since Co happened so I'm I'm jonesing to get up there going to ride the uh sp40 up there
which would be little under gun but I've done it before and got downhill tires and big beefy EXT suspension so you'll
be F I'll be all right yeah you guys are can to ride Squamish too or maybe Northshore maybe North Van one of the
days yeah nice so absolutely epic stoked that'll be that'll be a good trip super
sick well speaking of uh super sick things Fox uh you may have heard has has
released an electronic transfer post which if you're watching the video you'll see right now
and if you're listening you probably just heard the little clicky guy um yeah very sick I mean I don't know I mean
I'll hold the I'll hold the motor up to the mic so they can hear it too oh there you go that's nice yeah I mean if you
weren't really um I mean actually Liam and I did get our eyes on this when we went up to Santa Cruz um in the spring
March April just like on the Prototype version whatever pre-production um and
and yeah I mean it's it's this is pretty much the same exact thing that we saw which is pretty cool um yeah the battery
batteries on a seat CER to get more clearance for the seat and maximum drop
um for long travel bikes and 29in tires so visually it's a little bit different
you know a little I don't know little eye-catching at first but and um I think
everyone will get used to it and yeah it comes in a 200 mil drop which nice The Rock shocks Reverb currently does not
that's right so you know 200 mil drop I think is pretty standard these days on like an Enduro bike yeah um anything
shorter than that to me is not really in Duro bike worthy for the most part depending on build and you know body
size but for sure there's there's also a shraer valve on top of or underneath the saddle rails so um the it's it's
adjustable and that was always a problem with the transfer post before is there would be a little bit of friction in the
in the seat Coller and your post wouldn't go to full extension you got to rebuild it or send it in for service or
whatever it's kind of it's kind of a pain so now you can just add a little bit more pressure and um still obviously
keep it lubed up but that shouldn't be as much of an issue now which is super welcoming um it's super cool they uh
yeah it would be cool to see what they do with this battery they their Neo technology is supposed to is super fast
like you could hear me clicking the actuation on there it's extremely fast supposed to be 20 times faster than axis
and I guess 100 times f than just like conventional Bluetooth so that's pretty wild it's very fast and that' be cool to
see what they do with the battery technology for other products down the line it's true I mean I don't know if
you know you guys obviously follow the racing scene um but you know you see a lot of the guys with the kind of similar
looking color SL battery setup on some of their shocks and stuff like that so yeah the Frameworks guys have been on it
all year so so we'll see you know whatever if that's like a what do you
call it flight attendant type situation something like that from Fox so that'll be pretty cool to see and um yeah it's
just kind of cool to see like you know kind of evolutionary technology come from Fox like this and um obviously
there's a lot of people out there who have Fox suspension and you know want to match their stuff with something fancy like this so pretty sick I think with
the battery sticking out like that and all the internals there being sticking out at the collar yeah it doesn't look
the best but I think once we start seeing them come like on OEM bikes it'll kind of feel normal and get used to it
and you won't even certain bikes like the Forbidden has that big seat MK like it probably won't even look weird on that 100% um yeah it's obviously weird
cuz we've never seen a seat post like this before um and but yeah like you said I think we'll get used to it and
and honestly like I would probably prefer that over the over the Reverb considering you know Tire Buzz scenarios
and stuff like that like I mean obviously we don't really have to worry about that like but I'm sure shorter riders with certain frame small frame
sizes like you know some people for some people it is a major issue for sure um for us not to much but Jesse melin has a
special clamp made so he can run his battery in the front of his post so it doesn't Buzz really yeah CU he's he's
got short legs and I saw that well sham file the patent or whatever for the same kind of
design for Reverb out like the day after this came out of course
right just the whole one upmanship going on there the transfer NEOS aren't quite available but we have as many as we can
back order and I think they come in on October not bad yeah it'll be here before you know it y if you want one
sign up for back in stock on the site I was uh saw the they're going to make a performance version but it's going to be
OE only so you'll start to see those at least for now you'll start to see those
come maybe even before these who knows I guess when the next model year comes out we'll see those on stock bikes soon sick
wow pretty radical speaking of things that we want and we want them to come soon Frameworks and duro bike pretty
sick yeah um tell us a little bit about what we got got going on here we got build kits yeah so well first Frameworks
Nico's bike project NCO malali yeah and his team uh they made their downhole bike and they released that earlier this
year for the Race season uh now they're making an Enduro bike um I was able to
swing my leg over one of their early protos last year and that had a bunch of prototype Parts on it so take that for
what it is but that was the best indur bike I've ever ridden I got one lap on it it was insane so wow um was that the
current design I don't know if I just missed you saying something it was cuz I know he's done a bunch of refinements it
wasn't as refined as it is now it didn't have the CN seed head tube and bottom bracket that's going to have I think it
only had one carbon seat stay or chain stay but not the other because the
downhill wouldn't work on the Enduro for some clearance issues mhm um so yeah it
was it was far from where it was now and that was still like I was like whoa this is insane so wow um yeah the frames are
going on for pre-order uh they're actually going on tomorrow morning so this isn't going to come out till like
six or S days from now M um so they'll already be up but what we're going to do
worldwide is we're going to help collaborate with some build kits so uh we have a Shimano XT GXT type and
a team replica build which has swam XX on it um three different build kits uh
as a stock form and you buy the frame from Frameworks you hit us up we get you a build kit and we'll build the bike for
you um and send it back to you built up so uh yeah stoked to collaborate with
them on that help them get some complete bikes out there so people aren't sourcing parts and we know all the specs
and what's going to fit so that'll make your life easy as a consumer um and yeah just stoked for Nico to get this Enduro
bike out the downhill bike is obviously super sick but it appeals to less people in my opinion right um so you know then
dur bike I think they'll sell through more than they probably expect if they sold to all the downhill bikes that's
what I'm thinking at least so yeah who knows right but it's going to come with a rear shock um that's tuned for the
bike sick and yeah looks that's super cool it looks really go to the website and check it out even if you're not even
to look it just looks really refined for being a handmade front triangle the rear
end is carbon it's made in a factory but the links are made by five Dev I believe CN seed the bottom bracket the head
tubes all CN seed and just straight tubes are welded by Frank the welder who uh is like probably the most OG bike
welder to ever exist uh some of the early yetis were all welded by Frank the
welder um he's been involved with a lot of mountain bike welding and prototyping
and design for what 40 years now 5050 years or something like that it's pretty
legendary so I've always wanted a frame by Frank the welder just being you know a bike nerd so I kind of can get one now
oh and it's like being developed by Nico and the whole framework team the best riders in the world I mean as as and um
Angel are both at World champs this weekend so I guess the podcast will probably come out after World Champs but
hope hopefully ASA takes it home for the US for juniors so we see be be awesome I
wonder when there's the last time us uh junior or but Junior World Champ
did Richie Roode win win Junior down he might you're right yeah I think he did he might have good memory trage yeah so
yeah this uh Enduro bike actually won Enduro Nationals last year is the very first prototype I believe oh yeah was on
it for like three days and went in the road Nationals and smoked everyone including Richie on so that is an
absolute unit man good I think the bike's better than just saying I can't wait to see
what ASA could do in Elites that's going to be so sick is that next year he'll be in Elites no he's first year Junior so
he'll be second year Junior next year wow yeah so he has time to get up speed and you know get his consistency under
his belt so yeah cool amazing well I'm looking forward to those Frameworks and duro bikes just seeing those in person
and getting to build them up and stuff should be super cool and I'm going to get myself a frame yeah I would love to
get one of those as well yeah cool um yeah you know it seems like the best kind of do- it all like
obviously we all want the downhill bike right it's it's obvious but you can't
ride that everywhere around here yeah so the Enduro bike it's like we can actually use it instead of just look at
it all the time which is nice you'd like to be able ride your bike what's the travel on the endur bike 170 170
stop7 mullet configuration only oh it's mullet only only um there you go yeah I
don't I don't know if it I can't remember um I have the specs in but I
don't know if it's going to have a full zero stack 56 headset or a little bit smaller one so I don't know how much
angle set you can do but I mean the Geo's dialed the kinematics are dialed it's made by Nico right like you know
it's made is it a one siiz frame kind of deal or they're different sizes small medium large extra large I'm going to
get a medium um cuz I want it a little bit more Tighter and playful I'm kind of right on the edge so I'm going to go
medium a little bit Shor chain stay can you go um have like uh you know ability
to have reach adjust headsets I'm not sure that's kind of what I the the zero
stack uh 56 is like it's just a lot of space in there so you can get an angle
set in there but I think they if I remember correctly Nico sized that down because it weighed a lot and he was
trying to get the weight down a little bit because the first prototypes were pretty Porky and obviously you know a
race bike's a race bike it's going to weigh it's going to weigh but like if you could shave some weight in certain spots you know of course right so yeah
makes sense yeah yeah sick super sick well speaking of super sick uh really
quick just wanted to mention uh one of our listeners I don't know um you guys might remember a little while back he
put together a really sick bike build video he built a Yeti s SP 160 with some insane Parts like a push uh shock and
stuff like that did another bike uh ree steel with intend suspension it is
actually insane and a super high quality video like the guy it's it's very sick
so I'm just going to put a link for that in the show notes cuz a lot of people seem to enjoy that and um yeah you don't see it every day
where people just like put together sick bike build videos for fun so yeah drink a coffee crack a cold one and watch the
video yeah maybe not at the same time but you know that's pretty deps depends
that's that's pretty cool though getting a a ree with the intense suspension right it's uh just super unique super
unique what about that Provo with the intense suspension that one was pretty cool too yeah that titanium one yeah oh
gosh on pink bike so sick wow yeah the intend stuff is very cool I mean Jeff
curo bike very cool yeah gets a lot of questions yeah people are intrigued my
friend don't the STS get scratched well you would think but
apparently not maybe if you wrote it like every day on some really gnarly stuff but yeah I don't know yeah super
sick though um speaking of sick should we get into a listener question real quick before the break yep let's hit a
let's hit a few of them let's do it my main Steed has internal frame storage but I got a canyon Spectra 125 that has
no frame storage I'm looking for something to carry my extra tube CO2 cartridge and inflator and tire lever I
have two brazon sections on the frame so looking to use that braon but open to
straps I guess what do you recommend well if he's referring to like a
accessory Mount yeah that wolf tooth Brad the wolf tooth Brad strap I believe
it's a medium size is like the one we've all kind of used throughout different bikes that have that the other cool one
is dayer the dayer one we have a bunch of their parts on our site uh you can
combine that with strap uh multi-tools and all kinds of stuff yeah that one's
cool too that's one Jeff has on his uh bike currently oh yeah okay yeah also the worldwide cycler
aam strap with the boa is pretty sick that works really well doesn't use the braz on straps no or brazon mounts yeah
if you use the brazon that wolf tooth bad Mount is pretty sick I had that on the bottom of my L for I mean for years
now since I got it um it's yeah it's really sick and it comes some of them come with actually a little dry bag too
that you can put everything in but that's kind of cool yeah um but yeah that's I've used both the Brad strap and
the oam um boa strap and they're both excellent can't really say good enough
good things about it the oam one's nice because if you have a bike with or without the bra on maybe and you want to
like I only have like two kits and i' you know I'm constantly riding three or four bikes right so you know the boas
pop it off everything stays together with the straps you can just pop it off throw it in the new bike tighten up the boa good to go in a second you know so
yeah um main thing is remembering to swap it and not getting to a trail like Trevor and I on the weekend where
downhill shuttling Trevor flatted I had plugs but neither of us had co2's or
tubes or tube so we just cooked it brother yeah brother it happens that's
what happens it does happen I mean you got however many bikes and you got to you got so many and like in your head
you're like I'm just downhill shuttling I don't need spares but then he Flats five minutes into 20-minute Trail yeah
and I'm riding down like the rockiest trail I can even imagine riding riding a flat down this just like kind of pissed
and brother like what am I doing it's just like that's the only way you're going to learn to carry a tube with you
every single have to experience that you do it every other year and then you remember again that's my experience right oh yep
oh man yeah it's hey and it's also a good test for your kit right do I have
everything is I got his tire plugged and it's crazy I had I had a dino plug in my
bib pocket and I I I like stop and try to plug it with my thumb or my finger
and I'm pulling it out and Li's already got it ready yeah I'm already shoving his tire I'm like okay we got that quick
that wasn't an issue yeah but the issue was the tire was done yeah the tire was done totally totally pinched the bead
and you didn't have anything to inflate it no no I had a CO2 in my we we were shuttling so I had um I was running my
full face in my half shell helmet bag I have
everything multitool in the truck at the bottom brutal oh man that's the way she
goes that's the way she goes I guess I'll just you know continue the weekend story we're going backwards yeah that's
question but uh I went ahead cuz our buddy Jorge was I didn't know if he was doing a full pull but it sometimes we
stop at this middle section and I went to go see if he's going to stop there and you know have him wait for Trevor and as I'm riding down the trail I'm
just kind of like riding along I'm going pretty good um I go to kind of get up on this little bit higher line that I did
not take the previous lap and next thing you know I'm front flipping down the trail and uh you know did a couple
little tumbles not not bad on the body or anything but I broke every single screen I had on my body I broke the
front of my phone the back of my phone and my Garmin watch how did that even happen how did you manage to how did you manage to break your front and back I
crushed it on my back no I just it was the thing was just rock to back I mean
that's where I'm sore as right where my phone was really yeah um and yeah I just you know full front flip to the back and
then kind of you know momentum kept me going a little but um yeah I was fine
but my screens were not your electronics did not luckily the Apple Care kicked in
and I got that taken off oh there you go my garmin's sad right now oh sad for those local we were shuttling Cold
Springs Trail in Santa Barbara yeah um which is a super cool Trail it's my first time riding it um extremely Rocky
sick and we have the trail one pedal the sage pedal named after the Sage Trail
Network which is takes care of the Cold Springs Trail oh that's they were the reason why we were able to ride it it
was not overgrown it was in good shape and um yeah that's a shout out Sage amazing that's very wholesome but yeah
to bring It full circle so wow carry your spares yeah to bring It full circle
carry your spares don't be too cool for spares yep oh man brutal well you know
everything happens for a reason right is there more to life than mountain biking
nope I was thinking about this the other day that I mean biking and mountain biking has fully consumed my life and uh
I don't think I go any kind of day without mentioning the word bike yeah yeah or thinking about a bike or
anything it's a little bit psychotic but even if I'm not saying it I'm definitely
thinking about it and just constantly thinking about builds or how I can like do something or what would be a better
setup or for no reason optimiz no reason at all like I'm not not Racing Pro you
know I kind of get paid to do this but like in a roundabout [Laughter] way well you know and just can fully
consumes I mean there is a little bit more to life than mountain biking us three do not have children uh Jared's on
his way to get married but none of us also have wies currently it's true so I guess maybe if you're at that point in
your life there might be more to life than mountain biking but ride your damn bike for us not so much yeah it's like
it's fun it's you know exercise it's mental Clarity it's a very healthy Outlet it's pretty healthy Outlet yeah
besides the whole the cheap besides like besides like potentially crashing really is one of the healthiest things you can
be like addicted to or like really be motivated to get into um cuz the workout
is insane yeah it's so good for your whole body for your mental Clarity for everything I mean it's just a good thing
to do um it's also really fun um you can meet some cool people doing it and that's true yeah yeah it's not the worst
life no it's certainly not no yeah you know I can't really think of too many
other things but this guy tore his meniscus playing beach volleyball dude
what are you doing I think before that we need to hit a break from our and hear from our sponsor this that's true you
know what Willam you're right we'll get back to that question let you guys think about that simmer for a little bit beach volleyball and now a word from our
sponsors ladies and gentlemen mountain bike podcast listeners are you passionate about mountain biking the
answer is yes are you passionate about video editing that we don't know if you are please reach out to us we are
currently looking for an editor for our videos for our YouTube channel channel
so if you have those proficient skills please let us know send an email to podcast worldwid cycle.com and we'd love
to hear from you thanks and now back to the show ladies and gentlemen we're back
we're back and we got listener questions I recently tore my Meniscus beach
volleyball incident and we'll be off the bike for a couple months possibly have you guys ever been sidelined by an
injury if so what things have you done to pass the time Andor get ready to get
back on the bike I dislocated my shoulder in Mexico playing volleyball in a pool you can relate to the story yeah
wow yep I think I remember that when you were you had the the the brace on for a
while yeah oh I've I just had shoulder issues but I was at a music festival so
I used like my sling like or my my crossbody kind of bag like my party bag
to use as a sling too I didn't have a sling I was thinking maybe put like bottles in there or something like
hiding stuff in there like while you're at the festival no not an actual sling I didn't have an actual sling I was in Mexico yeah but so I just used it as my
sling but I still party the whole time it was awesome what a trooper yeah so if you get hurt go to a music festival in
Mexico um that' be a good way to pass the time that would be a good way to pass the time um but he it's his meniscus that's his knee yeah that's
rough you're probably not dancing a lot CU you don't want to dance a lot no you want to be off your off your off your
miniscus rehab I actually my buddy just had meniscus surgery and he was actually
back pretty quick um he's still not you know diving right back into things you know he's still you know gingerly and
he's like walking again but like he was on a cane for a couple days right post surgery i' I'd ask your doctor if you
could still cycle by chill though cuz I think you still can with miniscus acl's
like you're done right but like miniscus just to just to get a little bit of blood flowing but yeah stationary bike
maybe when another time when I dislocated my shoulder and I couldn't ride I went through designing my whole
van like very meticulously there you go yeah it's a good way to pass the time by Van um I would I don't know if you like
video games but that's definitely something you could do being while being very stationary uh Grand Theft Auto
still holds up in this day and age learn how to uh play chess yeah no the hard
part is cuz it's his knee yeah that's tough you could work on your bikes sorry dud you could look into some upgrades
you know if you're really just like jonesing to do something to your bike um you could build a new bike that would
be cool you could I'm getting stuck in this whole negative Loop buying stuff you could um
yeah no I mean that is tough I would basically do I would exercise other
every other part of your body that you could you know do a lot of planks and then um some dumbbells yeah I would get
a stationary bike or pedal like gingerly easily as soon as you could join a pottery class that sounds I actually
love pottery CICS you go swimming you could probably swim that's a good one
yeah I mean if you play volleyball you should be a swimmer too right on the beach I don't know maybe maybe not um
yeah Trevor have you ever had any like serious injuries like that I uh didn't want to say much but a knock on wood I
haven't really had too many like big injuries um just little things like like uh sprinting my wrist or my thumbs or my
ankle um nothing crazy yeah maybe one day I guess sprayed my ankle pretty bad
you know a couple years ago when we were riding without a Miller and um I I mean honestly I couldn't really do much
either cuz it was it was pretty it pretty bad but I would do yoga and stuff like that I mean that's pretty easy low
impact and like you obviously can't go too crazy with your knee like that but once you're getting better it'd be a
good way to build strength again yep I uh yeah I haven't had too many
lower injury lower body injuries yeah mostly upper body ribs
bones shoulders wrists yeah lower body is tough cuz you obviously need your knees you need your feet all that good
stuff your ankles like to move around and ride your bike but there's definitely a lot of other things you can do to pass the time um binge watch a
really good show I'm on about to start season six of Game of Thrones for the first time no spoilers people please um
I don't watch any you again yeah same all right all right but
um yeah that's a very bingeable show a lot of content there any any real good drama series Breaking Bad um piggy
blinders myor that's one I need to get into that's really good too I used to play video games like a lot in high
school and I think I haven't really played since because I'm addicted to riding bikes and so uh the I think if I
was was injured and had to be on the couch for a while I'd probably get into video games again something like that
play a lot of cod or for sure uh buy PS2 and play MX versus ATV Unleashed oh yeah
for sure that's a one of the greatest of all time games for sure goated game
right there um world Warcraft you can go on a major Rabbit Hole there uh never
played lot of days and hours played on that bad boy sure let me tell you but yeah a lot of options there a lot of
options there none of them involved riding bikes unfortunately but all right you let's move back on the bikes all right back on the bikes I hope you get
better bro yeah get better soon um do different tire thicknesses require different tire pressures I.E exoexo plus
Double Down DH Max's Tires would you just run the same pressure more or less in each tire or would you maybe even
drop down a pound or two as tire wall thickness goes up there's not really like a standard like I run a double down
so I drop two PSI type of thing MH has to do with your Trails I would say I'm actually more or
less I'll stick with the same pressures and change Tire casing based on where I'm going to ride so it's like you know
I almost always run like 22 23 front 24 25 6 25 26 rear and then if I'm going
somewhere gnarly I go up in casing if I ride locally I'll ride EXO EXO Plus without pressure interesting what do you
do Trevor um I mean I am kind of the same way where I'll pretty much always run like 24 28 PSI in my tires um with
downhill tires I will run a little bit lower because you can get away with that yeah um and then with EXO tires I would
never run lower than that I just can't do it um but yeah I'm the same way I think I would rather change the tire
based off of the terrain um other than yeah that's about it cuz like for me the
reason why I have to go up in pressure usually is cuz I'm going to roll the tire and that kind of doesn't change it
changes a little bit based on casing but not all that much right like pinch flatting changes a ton and flatting on
rocks will change but like the way you push into a corner a burm or even a jump
and you roll the tire yeah like for me under 26 is always going to roll for sure you know for Trevor under 28's
always going to roll right like no matter what the casing is M yeah so that's kind of where my my pressures are
where I put them at unless I'm riding XC then I'll go super low but I'm not riding the bike the same way as I do every other bike that I ride right um I
think the one exception is like a downhill casing cuz it's so thick you can it won't roll as bad but it will
still squirm a little bit Yeah it still rolls it just isn't as it's not as dramatic it's not as dramatic yeah right
yeah and you also I mean with the exception of allegedly these new schabbi uh you know what call the radial
ply or whatever apparently you could still run high pressure and get good compliance but like in most other tires
you're going to sacrifice a whole lot of compliance and suppleness when you are jacking up pressure in like when we were in Mexico was pretty wet yeah so I was
running lower than I normally would pressure-wise uh just to get some grip but I also had a DH casing on the rear
double down the front so I could get away with that lower pressure and and I didn't know the trail so you're not pushing in the BMS
that's another big thing too is is how how hard are you going to be riding the trails like examp example like when we were in Mexico I set my tires to that 28
24 and to be honest with you I didn't even check them the rest of the time because I knew they'd lose a little bit of pressure each time each day and we
weren't really going super hard and the trails were wet and a little slippery so
um I kind of wanted to maximize as much group as possible not going too fast right um so that's that's another
scenario I guess yeah versus like if you're get to go a ride Spectrum downhill you know whatever you know well
you know the trail you know the sections that you're going to be risk what was interesting is when we were shuttling in
Santa Barbara this weekend the first run I did um I was hitting my rear tire rim a little bit yeah um and I was running a
double down Tire same setup I had in Mexico Double Down Tire DHR too in the rear um with 28 PSI and I was hitting
Rim a couple times I was like dang I wonder if I burp my tire or something and something was something was off so I
checked my pressure the next lap still at 28 I was like oh okay I'll just keep it I'll just deal with it and hit Rim a
couple times I guess and yeah five minutes in I I got a pitch flat so um
maybe if you are hitting rim on a really Rocky Trail go up to a PSI that's a good call driver oh and
also you should carry a spare oh and a tube or oh excuse me and
a pump rather or CO2 that's a good call um yeah all all really good things to
live by I really like all this advice good for everybody to listen to and I think like if you're running a exo
casing like thin Trail tire and you're riding really aggressive gnarly Trails like that PSI won't be adequate enough
because you're just asking the wrong thing out of the casing yeah and it's just not going to be correct so you will
have to go up a little bit in PSI um but yeah it's just not going to be what you should be running yeah yeah yeah and
like you mentioned Liam uh cross country bike with super low pressures you're just like riding that bike different
yeah you're like holding momentum I'm not pushing into jumps or burms you're kind of like letting the bike do its
thing while you kind of like guide it where it's going but like you're trying to be smoother you're not I don't ride aggressive at all on that thing I'm I'm
very ginger on it you know like the XC guys who are running those like 17 18 PSI with some inserts in it it's a whole
different way of writing you're not going to be pushing like super hard and yeah you have to be kind of like
thinking about being smooth the whole time like if you're used to so just smashing that's not the setup for you no
yeah you're going to be more of like a ballerina instead of like a but if you can make it work it's extremely efficient so you can actually go fast in
it you have to be ride it a different way yeah yep absolutely which is very interesting very good wisdom here very
good speaking of which Liam you want to read this next one um I guess so the
year is 2024 and an alternate universe and elong musk is president of the United States of America he mandates
everyone must own an MTB what are you getting so you don't end up in the goog yep what is that the goog was like I
don't know it's like a like a prison type like or like you know the for all
intense purposes like Russian goog you know Soviet yeah um well not political
and I also hope I don't know if Elon mus should be president just going to say that but
um uh just for the record just for the record this is not our opinion we don't want him to be we don't take political
stands on this podcast um I mean uh this day and age if I had to get one ebike
today that was out I'd get a Crest line yep uh I think I would get a Crest line too yeah I've spent a lot of time on a
Crest line and I absolutely love it it rips it's very fast and um that would be
my weapon of choice that would be the one and with that said we there are some future bikes yeah I guess it's out right
the DJI the DJI yeah so we just got the DJI ebike in for testing so we're going
to have a video on that and uh some content coming out we're going to be testing it pretty much mostly us three
are going to be testing it I mean um and getting our thoughts and so far it is very interesting the motor is like
completely silent which is crazy uh you wrote it a little bit Yeah I want to say it's completely silent I'd say it's
quieter than some there's still like a clutch that kind of roll out a little bit and we'll see how it breaks in after
a couple rides but the actual motor itself when you're riding is pretty quiet and it uh I don't know the exact
specs on that yet like confirmed but from riding it outside it's extremely quick um and it's a DJI motor and
interface and it's got two wireless remotes on The Handlebar so it's super clean um the the the wire the screen
interface computer on the bike is touchcreen as well which is super cool
and um yeah see we haven't spent too much time doing anything with it yet but from
initial Impressions it seems extremely impressive yeah it's pretty sick it seems I don't know for sure but it seems
like it could be full power power big battery at a lower weight that's almost
SL weight so yeah which is pretty crazy pretty exciting like if that if that
does come to fruition um that's extremely exciting um for sure the uh the bike itself that they put the
platform on is like extremely similar to a specialized SL
Leo interesting looks like it like seems like almost the same manufacture maybe
um but yeah it's cool it's very interesting it's also cool to kind of see if that's the trajectory that the
ebik technology is going like yeah seeing like a full power ebike at a you know basically SL we SL we uh that's
pretty cool I think it's like what we've been waiting for this whole time like we all knew that technology was going to
catch up eventually and I think it's like much here or coming very soon so it's super exciting for all the eikers
out there for sure maybe five more years like it'll be absolutely there I mean they're going to be insane it's going to
be super cool I'm excited to be a part of it for sure for sure I mean look at where ebikes were 5 years ago I mean you
know definitely not there no no yeah all right Trevor you want to read the next one next one I have a current transition
alloy Patrol with a Cascade link that bumps up my rear travel to 170 mm if I
buy a 20 7 and A2 downhill Fork will it offset the change in goo since it's
originally a 29 front how does one go about calculating or figuring that
out that's a good question well um I guess no I don't think he just bought a
Cascade link uh-huh that like slightly slightly changes the Geo just
makes a little bit like slack but like half a degree it's going to it's going to change more of the progression of
anything in the too much might be like very very minute
yeah um I think putting a 27 and a half down Fork might be the wrong move
definitely the wrong move I think having just a 29 in downhill Fork would be
better but it's still a bit extreme I would say yeah like I don't I don't I think the patrol comes with 170 front
stock mhm so if you did a 170 downhill Fork You' technically be dropping the
head to angle by 10 mil roughly which is a 10 mil at the head tube is about 04 of a
head tube angle which are probably being back to stock Geo as far as head tube angle goes but by I believe the Cascade
link will also drop your bb a little bit and slacking out your head tube and then when you drop your head to back down
again you're going to drop your bb even lower so your bb is going to be in the ground so I'm I'm reading it right now
it says it increases the progression from 28 to to 23% and bumps the travel
to 180 with a 65 mm stroke shock or 170 if you're just running a 60 mm stroke
shock which I'm sure is probably stock um with with the 60 mm stroke um so does
it change head to angle at all not that I can see yeah so I don't I don't think you want to change too much especially
not going a 275 downhill Fork that'll that'll drop your bb a lot that'll you
know shorten out the front or uh make a smaller front wheel I wouldn't I wouldn't go about it that way
because it's a mullet obviously patrols are mullet stock yes so yeah the Cascade link is more about tuning your Curve
Your leverage curve and bumping the travel right like tiny yeah so it's more
just going to change the Ride character of your bike characteristics of your bike not so much goo yeah yeah um but I
mean if you were to figure that out right uh you're looking at like axle to Crown right and like your bottom bracket
height yeah but yeah I don't think he even needs to figure that out but yeah realistically wouldn't recommend it no
yeah y some good wisdom yep all right hey Fellers love the show I've been
binge listening so hard I hear your voices in my dreams talking about the Max's ass a guy I've got a pivot
switchblade and absolutely love it for ripping front rage Colorado Trails I know you love the s140 and when a
listener asked for comparable bikes that do it all the switch blade didn't even come up what gives thanks boys keep up
the good work you're my heroes well it's funny you ask it turns out worldwide cycl is actually a pivot dealer but we
are only allowed to sell them in the east coast Lancaster in store only not online in store only not online so you
would almost not even know that we're a dealer pivot but um and we've tried to get them here but they will not let us
get the bikes or sell online or sell online because there's a local dealer that sells them so the the switchblade
is a sick bike theck bik they make good bikes DW bikes in general are pretty good iism pivots Yeah I'd write it yeah
but yeah we can't do much with pivot so it kind of doesn't even cross our mind that it's an option sometimes because yeah they won't let us sell online uh
they won't let us ship parts Service Parts here to service the customer's bike yeah it's like the forbidden fruit yep we want to try it but we can't we
can't and uh yeah I I honestly I don't even know if I've ever even ridden a pivot um because of that right I I would
I would mean I've written some around they're they're great bikes yeah I would love to personally but like yeah when we talking about bikes that we want to ride
or something it's mainly bikes that when we sell we're familiar with or have experience on or we see them a lot right
specialized don't see a ton of pivots out here maybe if we in Arizona we'd see a lot more but um yeah different story
yeah you really don't see them that much yeah they're they're here and there I mean not here at least not in our local
area yeah sometimes but not super popular though yeah so with that said I mean yeah super sick bike but you know
unfortunately just don't have the access to it all right any pro tips on growing
slash building a mullet I feel like you could grow a mullet right now Jared I don't know but
then he said already order my wheels and tires from y all thanks this is part of another question
here that um it's from the bottom so he's mulleting his transition Scout and
he has a couple questions how much difference in axle to Crown is okay I'm downsizing the fork from 150 to 140 but
it'll still likely be about 10 mil taller and does brand consistency matter brand consistency matter too much
between the shock and the fork stock build is Rock shocks but I'm looking at King Creek Forest since it's height adjustable and technically the Scout
rear travel can go up from 140 150 um okay
so tips for mulleting a bike well you really have to look at the axle
of the crown that's like the number one thing right like if you're adding a 29er wheel on the front you
don't want your bottom bracket to get too high right and you don't want to add too much travel to the front that's going to like yeah really mess up the
geometry weirdly so yeah so you're going to go 150 to 140 that kind of balances it out mhm but I wouldn't go up in rear
travel to then make you more rear travel than front travel right yeah that's a bad that's a bad recipe right there no
you want yeah keep it at 140 rear downsizing 150 to 140 front and I'd
probably just leave it at that it's probably the best it's basically going to ride yeah
um can't I just can't help but feel like it's better to just get a bike that's meant for a mold set 100% kind of like
putting a Band-Aid on on like a huge open wound you know like yeah or some kind of analogy like that where it's
really going to be tough to make that work super well like it wasn't designed for that you're kind of just like
playing around with it a little bit too much I mean Liam you not have both uh mulleted bikes you did that Revel rail y
um and I mulleted a Yeti sp65 um I did exactly that I dropped the
fork down 10 mil and I actually Short Stroke the rear a little bit just to get a front and rear balance and suspension
MH um and it rode okay in certain places but for the most part it felt wrong yeah
yeah I feel the same I think about the 165 um you know and then you go back and
I rode the new 165 and I was like okay this is like how it should have been yeah yeah it was like this is how it was like okay properly designed around the
mullet platform this is great and I did the same thing I went down from 180 travel stock 275 to 170 29er front wheel
same thing that you did basically but with the with the yeti um and yeah it was it was fun and everything but it was
it was by no means like optimized yeah um and you would have my other option would have been go down to 160 and then
I have 160 front 165 rear and like that's not really ideal either um but
with that said yeah your best option is going to be just drop 10 Mill on the fork yeah run your run your bars like
drop another 5 mil into your stem five or 10 mil on your stem yeah um your bb will probably still end up a little bit
higher but yeah yeah Jared do you have any trips on or tips on growing a mullet
that's a really good question Trevor um you want to grow out all your hair at
once and then when you're ready trim it back and then you got business in the
front party in the back party time yeah should ask Brian that when our Mexico trip had an EP Ro a wicked mullet that's
sick yeah uh props shout to Brian Brian's probably listening right now too hell yeah shout out Brian what's up uh
Brian's been on a couple of sick chasing epic trips and he was on the Mexico City trip you just said that's pretty awesome
Brian was sending it out there pretty sick that's absolutely epic
um well sick let's how about how about some feedback for this guy he needs some feedback my 2024 Santa Cruz tallboy
shock is the fox DPS it's adequate but not great however I do like its three position lever open medium firm my ride
style is not overly Rowdy but often entails long firad climbs firm semi-technical Rocky Rudy descents open
and mixed with basic flow and Trail medium seems most new Fox and rock shock
shocks I've looked at are two position open or closed how do you all manage without a mid setting any suggestions on
a new shock thanks love your podcast videos haven't missed a single episode
dedicated fan dedicated um for me if I'm riding a
mixed basic flow Trail and semi technical Rocky Rudy stuff my bike's
always in open mode I kind of set it up for all that and then I throw it in the firm mode if I'm on pretty much a super
Fire Road or Road section but also a lot of these shocks like the Super Deluxe
and the X2 or floex the firms aren't as firm as that DPS right they're a little
bit softer it's almost like in between medium and firm correct right whereas
doesn't the new rock shocks like the ASR have a three position lockout remote
yeah right so he's saying that they're mostly two position the like he he's
saying he wants to go up in shock from a DPS right oh okay yeah to a more Rowdy shock he's like you're going to be
losing and it's kind of like not the purpose of it I see what like Liam was saying if you're riding flow
Trails where they're just like basic and stuff you could lock it out but like I don't know I I I just keep it open yeah
I mean I would add like two or three more clicks of low speed compression will'll keep you a little bit higher in your travel and then once you do hit
that uh you know Rocky chunky other style Trail you're going to blow through that low speed anyways yeah that's a
good point Liam um you know come to think of it riding my sp140 everywhere I don't really ever miss that middle
position it's really only on that DPS like where you I would want it yeah um
and yeah like you said just crank up the compression a little bit if you're going to ride a trail that kind of Demands that yeah um yeah at first I was
thinking like don't the DPS and the float have the three positions like no he wants the reservoir like okay yeah he
wants the float X or something like that totally check out and sometimes even when I'm climbing like a fire road if it
is if it even has a little bit of like chatter bumps and stuff I kind of want it to be open yeah because otherwise it's just kind of harsh and yeah you
think oh maybe I'm losing a little bit of efficiency or I'm bobbing too much you're really not it's not that much and
it's better to have it just open so you're tracking the ground the whole time you have traction the whole time for sure um that's kind of what you're
what I'm looking for is just traction yeah especially on a single track climb yeah that if it's like if it's super
smooth then just lock it out yeah um and then it is what it is agreed agreed how about this next one been running dual
forecasters for a while now partially from the mty podcast recommendations 3C
front and dual compound rear I do like it but sometimes the front end seems to slide more than I'd prefer any thoughts
on keeping the forecaster on the back and putting an as a guy up front personally not a fan of tires with a
large Center to side Channel like the diss sector or dhf that yeah I mean if you need more
jack up front I'd go ask the guy um but yeah that being said it is kind of end
of season so forecasters might be getting a little washy in certain areas when it gets dry and blown out sure um
so yeah ask gu up front would work what would you do uh they have exo Max grip
as a guy or I believe they do yeah that'd be good that would be really good um but i' I'd probably try EXO Max Terra
to get a little bit more rolling speed to kind of match the forecaster feel Y and it's still going to be fairly light
too yeah like on my on the bike I'm riding I have a exo Max ter up front it's fine for local stuff yeah yeah nice
that's good yeah if you're also just watching on the forecast or you could try playing with like your like bar
height too and like your body position that could just be like a little bit off maybe you're putting too much trust in
your front end um or not or not waiting it enough and you're just kind of like it's kind of washy and you need to put
more pressure on it so could try playing around with your bar position and your kind of riding style and see if that
helps at all for sure good call yeah um definitely it's interesting like how
much um I've noticed like where you put your weight especially in the turns can
affect the traction like it's huge waiting your outside Tire crank down whatever it is like it's amazing how if
you balance your way like in the middle of the bike how much equally the tractions applied to both Wheels crazy I know but it actually is is insane how
big a difference it makes yeah yeah body position and setup and even just a a PSI
or two uh can make that forecaster really hook up for sure we we rode them
a lot in some pretty loose conditions this summer yeah I I put dual forecasters on after downeyville and I
rode tyrum and Tahoe which was like blow three Ines of kitty litter the whole
time and you know I was ripping just fine with them so that's awesome yeah I
guess we don't really know where this guy's riding either I don't think you mention that um or the bike that he's on so yeah those try playing with like
leading the bike over super hard and getting those hips like way out in the sky and um you'll just like have so much
more traction so just play with that and um if you're just relying purely on the tire grip to keep your front wheel in a
place then yeah try other things out for sure and if that doesn't work then as a guy all the way an guy with an as a guy
you can kind of get away with some bad technique you know there's so much grip it just works you can you can pretty
much get away with almost anything with an guy especially the uh the max grip version that's for sure well ladies and
gentlemen that is going to conclude episode 1042 of the MTP podcast thank you so much for listening and I do
apologize last time if I may have sounded like I said $50 gift card cuz I got a couple emails people said I'm
