Fox has come a long way since the D.O.S.S., their very first attempt at a dropper post. It wasn’t exactly well-received, so they went back to the drawing board and came up with the Transfer. The Transfer turned out to be a killer product that works well and looks great. New for 2021, Fox worked on the Transfer and managed to still squeeze out a few improvements. There are a number of changes that Fox made that might be more important to you than others, so read on to learn how Fox stepped up their game.
For starters, the Fox Transfer takes on a slightly new look. The clamp design up top is probably the very first change you’ll notice on the new Transfer. The head is a little bit larger and sticks out a little bit more than previously, which allows the Transfer to slam down even further than before. This makes for an overall shorter stack height, meaning you can stick your dropper post a little further down into your seat tube to give you a little extra wiggle room on the steeps. This is about the biggest change to the looks, so don’t worry if you thought that sweet, sweet Kashima gold was going anywhere.
Next up is the new lightweight under bar 1x lever design for the dropper remote. The body shaves a little weight by being a little shorter and squatter than the previous generation. The thumb paddle is also a little shorter to help reduce some of the weight. The clamp is still compatible with SRAM’s Matchmaker and Shimano’s I-Spec II, but you can also get it as a standalone clamp.
Servicing a dropper post is often a daunting task, so Fox made the 2021 Transfer even easier to service than before.
The new Transfer is significantly shorter than the previous generation. A shorter post and a shorter insertion depth means you can now fit longer posts on shorter seat tubes, ultimately meaning more drop for your bike. Check out below just how much shorter Fox was able to make the new Transfer:
There are a few other details about the Transfer you should know, it’s now internal routing only, comes in 30.9 and 31.6mm diameters, and is 25g lighter than before. You can either have it in the Factory or Performance Elite varieties, with the only difference being that the Factory post is covered in the slippery gold-colored Kashima Coat. The 2021 Fox Transfer starts at $299 for the Performance Elite and goes up to $349 for the Factory model. The lever is sold separately for $65. Overall, Fox took one of our absolute favorite dropper posts and made it even better than before.
