Vorsprung Smashpot V2 - Fork Coil Conversion System All sizes
—$365
PLEASE LEAVE NOTES ON FORK MODEL & SPRING RATE YOU'D LIKE Building upon the success of the original Smashpot, the V2 brings a host of enhancements designed to elevate your ride to new heights, because if there’s one email we get frequently, it’s from people saying “Hey Vorsprung, how can I elevate my ride to new heights?”. Word for word, every time. All this is new to me, what is a Smashpot? The Smashpot is a coil conversion kit that completely replaces your air spring (and its associated friction, stiction, nonlinearity, stiff initial stroke, maintenance, inconsistency, leakage etc) and replaces it with some bendy metal and hydraulics that make it eat bumps (much) better, for longer, without harsh bottom outs, and with much better bushing lubrication due to the increased oil volumes. The Smashpot also pairs beautifully with our recently released Telum rear shock, for those who want to experience the compliant, predictable feel of full-coil suspension. Smashpot V2 vs V1 - Key Improvements: The Smashpot V2 now offers 140-200mm travel, expanding from the previous 130-180mm. Travel is set during installation using internal spacers behind the topout spring Travel is limited to the maximum that the fork chassis/damper/air spring would allow from factory Larger Top-Out Spring: The V2 features a larger top-out spring to eliminate any top-out noise for riders who prefer a very fast rebound setting. Dual Crown Compatibility: In response to rider demand, we're excited to announce that dual crown compatibility is coming very shortly. This will allow even more riders to experience the unparalleled smoothness and control that the Smashpot V2 delivers. Or perhaps the same number of riders on twice as many bikes. Because DH bikes rock. Enhanced Hydraulic Bottom-Out Adjustment: We've widened the range of hydraulic bottom-out adjustment, giving you more control over how your suspension handles the most demanding impacts. The firm end of the adjustment range is still firm under heavy hits, but the open end is more open (softer) than before. It’s still a shimmed, speed-sensitive valve, and can be revalved firmer or softer if you wish. Lower Profile Hydraulic Bottom Out Adjuster: The HBO adjuster is now turned using a small allen key rather than an external dial. This reduces protrusion and means there’s no dial to worry about losing. Progressive Spring Rates at 180mm+: For those running long travel setups, we've introduced progressive spring rates at 180mm and up. This comes from our dual-rate spring system, which uses two springs in series to further improve suppleness and deep-stroke progression. This gives you a softer spring rate at the start of the travel, then a firmer rate in the middle and end of the travel. Not only that, it’s more progressive for firmer spring rates, so the heavier and harder-charging riders get the increase in support that they need, without getting beaten up on the small stuff, while the lighter riders and those who are cruising get a bit less progression to ensure they can make good use of the travel. Travels of 140-170mm still use a single-rate spring. Expanded Compatibility: The Smashpot V2 is compatible with the following forks: Rockshox Zeb/Domain (2021+) Lyrik/Yari (2016-22, 2023+) Boxxer 35mm (very soon) Boxxer 38mm (very soon) (Please note Pike is no longer supported) Fox/Marzocchi 36/Z1 (2015-20, 2021+, including e-bike/Rhythm forks, Factory series and Performance series) 38 (all) 40/58 (very soon) Ohlins RXF38m.2 RXF36m.2 DH38 (December) DVO Onyx 36 Onyx 38 (December) Onyx DC (December) EXT Era V2 (December) Manitou Mezzer (December) Are any of the Smashpot V2/V1 parts interchangeable or backwards compatible? The topcaps for Fox, Ohlins and DVO forks are interchangeable between V1 and V2. The springs are also interchangeable; the longer-travel V2 fork kits include the secondary spring to pair with the primary spring - the primary spring is the only spring used at 170mm and below. You will need a stiffer primary spring when using the secondary spring as the combined rate is softer. Can I install it myself? Yes - if you’re comfortable servicing the air spring of your fork (which you’ll need to remove to install the Smashpot) you’ll be fine with the installation. Check the instructions here to get an idea of what’s required. Otherwise, we have a network of dealers who can help you out. Make a good fork a great fork. Introducing the Luftkappe air piston kit for Fox Float forks. The Luftkappe is available for: 34 Float NA2 (2016-17) Performance & Factory Series (130mm + only - 120mm and lower need the 2018 Evol air shaft before a Luftkappe can be fitted) 34 Float NA2 Evol (2018+) Performance & Factory Series 36 Float NA2 Evol (2018+) Performance & Factory Series 36 Float NA (2015-17) Performance & Factory Series (max 180mm travel, min 120mm travel) Pinkbike: "The Luftkappe's change to the feel of the Lyrik was immediately noticeable on the trail. Traction was increased across chatter and the fork remained higher in its travel and more stable, improving the dynamic ride height without sacrificing the top end. My confidence soared when hitting sections with a lot of chatter and mid to large-sized hits, and the result meant more comfort and speed through such sections." Taking everything we learned with the Corset air sleeves and the Luftkappe we developed for the Pike, Yari & Lyrik, this second generation Luftkappe is a new air piston assembly for Fox's 34 NA2/Evol and 36 Evol forks. User installable and simple to set up, the Luftkappe transforms a good fork into a great fork. Softer initial stroke Larger negative air chamber Increased sag without the associated diving Coil-like initial & mid-stroke spring rate without excessive bottoming Increased sensitivity Improved mid stroke support & control Superior bump compliance and traction Reduced hand fatigue Reduces required compression damping Retains volume spacer compatibility Optional tools available for self-install What's included in the kit: 34 Evol: Upgrade low friction air piston assembly. 34 NA2: Upgrade low friction air piston assembly & upgrade low friction, low profile sealhead 36 Evol: Upgrade low friction air piston assembly. 36 NA: Upgrade low friction air piston assembly & upgrade topout spacer ring Note: If your 36 Evol tops out noticeably, you will need to replace your air shaft assembly before purchasing the Luftkappe. Fox have updated this part due to the topout issues that many of the 2018 36 Evol forks had. 34 forks do not have this issue. Relevant Fox part numbers for the new air shaft assemblies, by travel: 180mm: 820-02-534-KIT 170mm: 820-02-535-KIT 160mm: 820-02-536-KIT 150mm: 820-02-537-KIT 140mm: 820-02-538-KIT 100mm (36 831): 820-02-539-KIT If your fork does not have noticeable top-out issues, you don't need to replace the shaft before installing the Luftkappe. FAQ: 1. Can I install it myself? Yes, provided you have access to the supplies and tools listed in the installation instructions above. If you're really crafty (and EXTREMELY careful) it is possible to install the Luftkappes (all Evol variants) without the installation tools, however the risk of damaging things is much higher and we really don't recommend trying. If you choose to take this route and damage your air shaft (or anything else), we cannot be held responsible - we make the tools available for a reason. It is not possible to install the 34 NA2 Luftkappe kit without 10mm shaft clamps and the bullet tool - you'll damage the shaft AND damage the seals on the new sealhead. 2. Does it work with TALAS forks? No, sorry. 3. Does it work with versions of the 36 prior to 2015? No, sorry! 4. Does it work with 32s or 40s? No, sorry. 5. How does it actually work? It enlarges the negative air chamber to reduce the initial spring rate. This lets you run higher air pressure for more support in the middle and end of the stroke with improved sensitivity in the start of the stroke. 6. Is it compatible with MRP's Ramp Control cartridge? Generally speaking no. If you are running your fork at least 30mm shorter than its maximum available travel, then yes. 7. Shouldn't I just buy a new fork instead? Sure, they're about the same price as the Luftkappe. 8. What parts does it actually replace in the air spring? It replaces the plastic piston itself, and the rubber topout bumper in the 34s is removed but not replaced (36 topout assembly is unchanged). You reuse your air shaft, though the 34NA2 kit comes with a replacement low friction, low profile sealhead comparable in size to the stock 2018 Evol sealhead. This is also why the NA2 kit is more expensive than the other two - it's basically a 2018 Factory update on top of a Luftkappe. 9. Who is this NOT suited for? The Luftkappe is outright superior to the stock air spring for nearly everyone, however there are a few cases where it might not be for you: - If you run your 36 at 180mm, it will be quite progressive. You may like it, but you may also find it hard to use the last 5-10mm of travel - if this would bother you then have a think about it first. At 170mm and below it will be fine. - If you like running really low sag for some reason. The Luftkappe runs more sag than the stock fork, but is firmer in the mid stroke - similar to a coil fork, but with ending-stroke ramp up to prevent harsh bottoming. If you're the kind of person who wants the fork to run 5% sag, this isn't for you. We could point out that a setup like that probably just means your handlebars are set too low and you're compensating with oversprung suspension, but we aren't here to judge you, so maybe just don't buy it. - If you're anal about your fork having an exact (but rounded-to-the-nearest-10mm) amount of travel. Because the Luftkappe balances forces at a pneumatic topout, the force right around topout is very low (literally zero other than friction), meaning the weight of the bike alone will cause it to sag a few millimetres. Your car's suspension sags under the vehicle's own weight, so should your bike - unless it was so sticky, overly stiff or over-preloaded that 10kg of bike weight wasn't enough to cause your suspension to move at all, of course. If only having an apparent 148mm out of a 150mm fork is a big deal for you, stick with the stock fork. Vorsprung Secus - Fork Air Spring Upgrade Kit
—$385
The Vorsprung Secus Fork Air Spring Upgrade Kit is an external air can that helps create more negative air space, creating a truly better spring rate for compatible air forks. Check out our blog article where we review the secus and go into detail about how the Secus feels & works. **Please Make sure to let us know the exact fork you have.** Compatible with Fox A1, Fox A2, Fox A3 air springs & RockShox A2. If you have Rockshox A3 please contact us. For the first time, we created an air spring with a truly better spring rate, everywhere in the travel, than a coil. The Secus upgrade delivers the first and only air spring system to really come indistinguishably close to the linear spring rate of a coil fork for the entire first 2/3rds of its travel, with the advantage of a gentle end stroke progression to prevent bottoming without the “wall of force” harshness that excessively progressive springs create. Secus Advantages: An enlarged negative air spring chamber delivers a soft, supple initial stroke for ultimate small bump compliance (yes, even compared to the Luftkappe) Proprietary Midstroke Support Valve improves predictability and support beyond the sag point Reduced lower leg pneumatic ramp means better scalability of the air spring, particularly for light riders who previously struggled to use full travel Plush and predictable like a coil, bottomless like an air spring Allows full use of travel in both directions - fully extends to topout without any quibbles (including on Debonair B1 air springs) and fully compresses without excessive ramp Allows more lower leg bath oil to be used for superior lubrication Considerably lighter than coil conversions - adds approximately 130g Simple setup - inflate fork, bounce on it a few times, press MSV charge button, go ride Compatible with OEM volume spacers for end-stroke progression adjustment Compatible with other aftermarket top-cap systems such as DSD Runt and MRP Ramp Control Transferrable between any Secus-compatible forks with only a footstud to change at most Three Stages of Control By independently optimising the beginning, middle and end portions of the stroke, the Secus gives you the linear-to-progressive spring rate that coil springs and traditional air springs alike wish they had. Initial stroke - enlarged negative air spring chamber delivers a soft, supple initial stroke for ultimate small bump compliance Midstroke - where traditional air spring rates drop off in the midstroke, our proprietary Midstroke Support Valve technology boosts the midstroke spring rate to maintain linearity, for support, predictability, ride height and compliance End stroke - enlarged lower leg volume reduces overall progression even at higher pressures and allows for a wider range of end-stroke ramp options to be utilised with standard fork volume spacers. Vorsprung Smashpot V2 Fork Coil Conversion Kit, RochShox Lyrik/Yari (2016-22) 55lbs/in
—$365
**THIS FITS ROCKSHOX LYRIK/YARI WITH A 55LBS/IN SPRING RATE** Presenting the Smashpot - a fork coil spring conversion system for singlecrown enduro forks, featuring externally adjustable hydraulic anti-bottoming technology to deliver precisely the amount of bottoming resistance you need. What's new for Smashpot V2 vs V1? 140-200mm travel (fork max travel permitting) vs 130-180mm Low-profile external hydraulic bottom out (HBO) adjustment Larger topout spring for silent engagement on big pulls Dual crown compatible - bringing coil back to downhill Dual-rate progressive springs for 180-200mm travels Wider range of external HBO adjustment Features: Full tool-free control over bottoming resistance. **11 coil spring rates available, from 30lbs/in to 80lbs/in precision wound in 5lbs/in increments. See image to calculate spring size. Rider weights from 45kg (100lbs) to 125kg (275lbs) catered for. Universal cartridge kits require only new top caps to be moved between different forks (and foot studs if different fork brands). Springs are guided and isolated internally and externally to reduce spring buckling and knocking, minimising noise. Spring guiding system also means less rubbing, less wear and less contamination of the bath oil. Utilises more oil for superior bushing lubrication and smoothness. Only coil conversion system on the market allowing 180mm travel. Easy and cost-effective to transfer from one fork to another. Allows full use of travel even for very light riders No harsh bottoming. Reliable and low maintenance. User installable and serviceable. Designed, developed and manufactured in Whistler, Canada. Weight increase of approximately 250-450g (dependent on spring rate and fork's existing spring system). System includes one universal Smashpot cartridge kit with brand-specific food stud, fork-specific topcap and spring. Our engineering is straightforward and no-BS, so we think our marketing should be too: if your first priority for your fork is outright performance, get yourself a Smashpot. Why Coil? Air springs have improved substantially over the years - and we've been at the forefront of air spring development for years, so we've got no bridges to sell you. Yeah, coils are heavier than air, and for some riders that alone is a dealbreaker - fair enough. The advantages of coil springs, however, are clear: Zero stiction or friction in a coil spring. And there never will be. Zero spring rate variation. Zero moving seals in the spring system to wear out, cause friction or leak. Zero temperature effect on spring rate. Zero altitude sensitivity. More oil in the fork - lubrication and service life are improved. Day in, day out, the fork just straight up feels good. In short, improvements in sensitivity, grip, compliance, mid-stroke support and consistency, with reductions in harshness and hand pain. Low weight aside, air springs outperform coil springs in one critical area: bottoming resistance. Enter the Smashpot. Externally adjustable, speed sensitive hydraulic bottoming control valve The heart of the Smashpot is a speed sensitive shimmed valve which engages progressively and seamlessly in the last 50mm of travel to effectively manage high energy and low energy inputs without harshness. Easy tool-free external adjustment ensures you get as much or as little bottoming resistance as you need. Light and smooth? Easy. Big and aggressive? Just as easy. Turn a dial and you're sorted. Why go this route? Unlike conventional hydraulic anti-bottoming cones, the longer displacement over which it is effective and its speed-sensitive shimmed valve means the Smashpot can dissipate more energy with lower forces, bringing the fork to a gentle stop at the end of the travel in a smooth, controlled manner. Compared to alternatives such as elastomer or pneumatic bump stops, the Smashpot doesn't involve components physically colliding mid-travel. And unlike air springs and pneumatic bump stops, it dissipates energy rather than storing it and throwing it back at you, further stabilising the bike. There's no air spring seals, meaning fewer potential points of failure in your fork, no spring stiction, fewer wearing seals, and no need for a shock pump - ever. FAQ How much weight does it add? It's heavier than your air spring by between 250-450g, depending on spring rate (firmer springs are generally heavier) and the fork's original spring system (TALAS/DPA are typically heavier than Float/Solo Air). If the weight bothers you, you may be more interested in a Luftkappe. Can I convert my fork back to air afterwards? Going back to air, should you wish to, may not be an option - spring rub may score the inside of your stanchion, so the the piston may not seal again. The spring is both isolated and guided to minimise stanchion knock and rub, however there are no guarantees an air spring will seal again after riding with a spring installed. We'd be pretty surprised if anyone actually wanted to do this after riding the Smashpot though. Do I need any extra parts to change the travel? All spacers required are included with the kit. The only thing you may want is more heat shrink for the cartridge tube, as it's installed after travel is set internally. Does it void the fork's warranty? As with any aftermarket modifications, it should be expected to void the fork manufacturer's warranty. What versions of the Pike does it fit? It is available for all 35mm Pikes in 27.5" and 29" from MY2014 onwards (no fitment for 26") in Boost and non-Boost. 29" forks need to use the included adaptor to lengthen the top cap. What versions of the Revelation does it fit? It fits all 35mm versions of the Revelation from MY2018 onwards. What versions of the Lyrik/Yari does it fit? It fits all versions of the Lyrik & Yari from MY2016 onwards. What versions of the Fox 36 does it fit? It fits all versions of the 36 from MY2015 onwards EXCEPT Pedelec e-bike specific forks. IMPORTANT: Call Fox with your serial number to check your fork's maximum permissible travel if attempting to run your fork with the Smashpot over 160mm if this is more travel than it currently has. Will it fit any other forks? Other applications are under development. Fitment notes: Not currently compatible with Fox 36 Pedelec (e-bike specific) forks. Not currently compatible with any 26" forks. Not currently compatible with any 34mm stanchion forks. No compatibility with any 32mm forks. Fork maximum travel is set by the manufacturer. DO NOT configure the Smashpot to exceed manufacturer-specified max travel. If in doubt, call the original fork manufacturer to determine maximum permissible travel. Typical fork maximum permissible travels: Rockshox: Lyrik/Yari 27.5"/29" - 180mm Pike/Revelation 27.5/29" - 160mm Fox: 36 Float/Talas 27.5" - 180mm OR 160mm - call Fox with your serial number to check max travel prior to setting Smashpot to more than 160mm travel. 36 Float/Talas 29" - 170mm OR 160mm - call Fox with your serial number to check max travel prior to setting Smashpot to more than 160mm travel.
